TASK DESCRIPTION AND INSTRUCTIONS TO STUDENT

As part of your job at Zip-D Inc, you have been approached by management to prepare a presentation to senior executives as part of their continual education programme.

Management have expressed an interest in increasing their knowledge of the purposes and functions of operating systems. Executives have also requested clarification on licensing, hardware and security requirements.

You are required to produce a multimedia presentation using a software package of your choice that can be used to help management understand these issues. Management also require you to produce a memo to all staff.

TASK 1 – MULTIMEDIA PRESENTATION / St / Te
Using software of your choice, prepare a multimedia presentation that clearly outlines the following :
a) The purpose of an operating system including:
(i)first program loaded into the computer by a boot program and remains in memory at all times
(ii)manage all other programs including the allocation and usage of hardware resources such as:
-memory
-central processing unit (CPU) time
-access and security
-hard disk space
-peripheral devices
(iii)foundation software on which other application / application programs depend
b) The benefits and limitations of the following operating systems:
(i)single – user / task
(ii)multi – user / task
(iii)network
c) Operating systems features included in:
(i)open source (such as Linux)
(ii)windows
(iii)apple (Mac OS-X)
d) Include a table outlining the basic features, functions, benefits and limitations of:
(i)batch file systems
(ii)real-time systems
(iii)multi-tasking systems

Prepare an office memo that outlines the following :
(i)The responsibilities of the user with regard to End User License Agreements (EULA)
(ii)The differences between single user, network and site licenses
