Ender’s Game Reading Schedule and Expectations

As we read Ender’s Game, there are a number of items that I want you to pay particular attention to.

As you come across these aspects in the story, write them down, explain its significance, and cite the page number.

1.  Characters and Character Traits – Every time the reader is introduced to a new character take note and jot down some character traits. Take note of how the main character, Ender, and recurring characters develop over the course of the novel.

2.  Themes – What themes (messages about life and the human condition) does the author highlight? How are these themes relevant to you?

3.  Hero’s Journey – Report how Ender is partaking in a Hero’s Journey. What elements of the Hero’s Journey does he go through? How do they correspond to the elements laid out by Joseph Campbell.

4.  Technology – What examples of modern technology and futuristic technology does the author incorporate into the story? What examples of futuristic technology are plausible, what are too far “out there”

You need to have an average of three entries per chapter covering a variety of the above topics. You also need to write up one deep thinking analytical discussion question for each chapter.
