NINTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME

First Reading: Deuteronomy 11:18, 26-28, 32

Moses tells the people to take his words to heart. He tells them that they will be blessed if they follow the commandments God has given them. Yet God will curse those who do not obey the commandments.

Second Reading: Romans 3:21-25, 28

Paul describes how there is now justice of God apart from the law. He says that all men have been reconciled to God by Jesus. True faith in Jesus is far more important than the law.

Gospel: Matthew 7:21-27

He also says that a person who puts his words into practice is like a person who builds their house on a rock, where it would survive anything. A person who doesn’t put his words into practice is like a foolish person who builds their house on sandy ground, where it will be easily destroyed

Reflections for the Week

This week, on June 5th, the nations of the world celebrate World Environment Day. The world is facing crises of dramatic proportions—skyrocketing fuel prices, violent conflicts over energy resources and water, life-threatening climate changes. Let us heed the words of Pope Benedict XVI, “We need to care for the environment; it has been entrusted to men and women to be protected and cultivated with responsible freedom with the good of all as a constant guiding criterion.” Learn more and take action.
Last Sunday’s collection --May 25 – was $3768.00.
Large corporations may have matching gift programs.
Won’t you investigate if you can help St Joseph in such a way?
There will be a second collection on June 1. The collection is for Fr Tom’s Kids. Please help these children in Kenya have a better life and education.

St Joseph has signed onto ParishPay, an electronic collection system that will ease your method of gift contribution. We will have detailed information next week.
