Position Title:Self-Advocacy Program Coordinator

Position Status:1 FTE, Exempt

Accountable to:Executive Director

Salary Range:$27,000 -$30,000

Qualifications:

Required: Bachelor’s Degree in a related field or comparable experience

Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Experience in promoting self-advocacy in individuals with intellectual/developmental disabilities (I/DD)

Functional understanding of I/DD and how to support people with I/DD towards independence

Availability for occasional overnight travel and working hours outside normal business hours

Reliable transportation

Word processing skills

Knowledge of and ability to use social media to communicate

Preferred:Knowledge of legislative issues concerning people with developmental disabilities

Experience working collaboratively with educational and other statewide organizations

Development or adaptation of training and presentation materials for people with I/DD

Experience or education demonstrating a knowledge of public policy advocacy

Working knowledge of budgeting and ability to develop and manage budgets

Essential/Primary Functions and Responsibilities:

  • Fulfill contract goals and objectives as the Advisor to the Self-Advocacy Coalition of Kansas (SACK) including answering inquires, facilitating and attending quarterly board meetings ,posting information and training materials to the SACK website, and providing support for SACK annual convention.
  • Supervise and support SACK self-advocate staff members.
  • Provide technical assistance to local self-advocacy groups throughout the state.
  • Facilitate/advise local self-advocacy group, the Self-Advocates of Lawrence (SAL).
  • Develop knowledge bank of community and statewide resource for collaboration and referral.
  • Actively participate in and facilitate participation of self-advocates on appropriate community and statewide groups and committees.
  • Provideor facilitate transportation for self and SACK staff members to statewide meetings.
  • Assist self advocate staff in developing needed training modules for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
  • Furnish self-advocacy training locally and statewide to consumers, families and service providers.
  • Assist with the development and preparation of grant proposals.
  • Prepare reports for the Board of Directors, KDADS and others as requested by funding sources.
  • Maintain knowledge of transition issues and provide support for transition students and their families.
  • Maintain confidentiality and uphold the values, vision, goals and objectives of The Arc of Douglas County and the Self-Advocate Coalition of Kansas.
