The flag of nation stands for the collective spirit of its people. India’s tricolour has three horizontal stripes of saffron, white and green colours with saffron uppermost followed by white and green. The white stripe holds a chakra at the centre. It was Dr. Radhakrishanan who offered the colours and the chakra of the flag in the Constituent Assembly . It was accepted and thus we got our tricolor.

The saffron in the flag denotes renunciation of disinterestedness. The White colour is the light and path of truth to guide our conduct. The Green shows our relation to soil. The Ashoka Chakra is the wheel of Dharma. Ashoka Chakra has twenty-four spokes. The ratio between the length and width of the flag has to be 3:2.

The tricolour flag with Charkha was hoisted earlier whereas the tricolor with Chakra was hoisted earlier the tricolour with Chakra was born on July 22, 1947, with J.N. Nehru’s words, ‘Now I present to you not only the resolution, but the flag itself. This was hoisted at the council House on August 15, 1947. The supreme Court holds that individual citizens have the right t fly national flag if they wish to, provided they do it with due respect to the flag.
