Session narrative
Introduction: 10-15 Minutes
Lodge Leadership Development is an important part of the lodge’s program and even a requirement for Quality Lodge. Without an effective LLD program within your lodge’s program the lodge is incapable of developing leaders of characters.
The goal of this session is to provide you with knowledge on all the tools available to you that will assist you and your lodge in planning and implementing an effective LLD program. The session will concentrate on going through the specific steps involved in utilizing all available resources.
Getting Started With Your Lodges LLD: 15-20 Minutes
We are going to walk through how properly plan, execute, and evaluate a basic Lodge Leadership Development program. Lodges need to realize and learn why it is important to have a LLD program, and not only that but an effective year-round program as well. The class will be reviewing over the major steps of planning a LLD program through a PowerPoint. The PowerPoint touches bases with the main sections of the Lodge Leadership Development Planning Guide, a national publication that can be found online.
Trainer Tip: This publication will be useful to refer to when looking for specific information for each section, and it is recommended to follow from this publication while presenting the PowerPoint.
Activity: Developing a LLD Event and Year–Round Lodge Training Plan 20-25 minutes
Separate the participants into buzz groups to brainstorm about year-round lodge training plans and creative training methods for lodges.
Each group will map out a plan to properly execute and evaluate an effective year-round LLD program. The trainer(s) will help to facilitate discussion within each group to make sure they stay on track.
From these materials each group will work to develop a training plan that would function with their given scenarios. The trainer(s) will facilitate the group discussion.
Model Year-Round Lodge Training Plans should include goals for the year, resources used, topics to be covered and basic training sessions that the group determines will be needed for their mock lodge. Encourage the participants to be creative, think outside of the box and not limit themselves to the parameters of the materials given. They may refer to trainers for suggestions, questions, guidance etc.
The last 5-10 minutes, the groups will present what they believe will be an effective plan to execute and evaluate an effective year-round LLD program.
Walk Through of Website: 5-7 Minutes
The class will be introduced to the website and will learn how to navigate it using the screenshots in the PowerPoint.
As you can see, we’ve made the site very simple. There are three main options.
Design Your LLD Event: This is for lodge officers and the LLD coordinator to use to plan the annual LLD event. You will be asked questions that evaluate the needs of your lodge, and the course will be tailored to fit your answers.
Course Resources: Here you can browse through all of the materials available for an LLDC, including session outlines, planning guides, handouts, games, etc. You can also search for key words to find materials on any topic. These resources can also be used throughout the year for any OA training.
Planning Support: This includes everything you need to run an LLD event. There are nametags, guides, patch order forms, religious service outlines, OA publications, you name it!
Conclusion: 10-15 Minutes
Introduce the Lodge Leadership Development Planning Guide and explain how to get a hold of it. Also introduce the two chapter resource packets and briefly describe what they are.
Briefly elaborate on the quotes used earlier on the presentation by having the participants describe what they think they mean.
We hope that you have learned a lot from this session and that you will take the information gathered from this session back to your lodge’s to provide a premier training experience.
Before the participants leave, ask them to fill out the evaluation form for the class.
