The soprano Martina Zadro graduated from the Zagreb Music Academy in the class of Professor Snježana Bujanović-Stanislav and completed her postgraduate studies at the same Academy under Professor Bujanović-Stanislav. She also graduated in Lied and Oratorium from the Universität für Musik und darstellende Kunst, Graz, in the class of Professor Gerhard Zeller. She did more vocal training with the great Slovak teacher Eva Blahova, with Vitomir Marof, one of the leading singers in the Opera of the Croatian National Theatre, and then with the opera legend Anna Moffo in New York.
Her opera debut came in the Croatian National Theatre in 1995, where she has so far sung the following roles: Jelena, Corilla, Giulietta, Gilda, Micaela and Mimi. Today, she performs on the following European and world opera stages:Teatro Municipal in Santiago, Teatro Campoamor in Oviedo, the SalzburgLandestheatre, the Narodni Divadlo in Prague, the Statny Opera in Prague, and the Longborough Festival Opera in England. In these theatres and at the Festival, she has performed the roles of Violetta, Mimi, the Countess, Micaela, Pamina and Susanna. Martina hascollaborated with the following conductors:, Yves Abel, Peter Feranec, Loris Voltolini,Tomaš Netopil, Elio Boncompagni, Dieter Rossberg, Gianluca Marcianòand Johannes Wildner.
Since the 2003/2004 season, she has been a member of the Slovene National Theatre Opera in Ljubljana in which she has sung the lead roles in LaTraviata, TheTurk in Italy, La Boheme, Carmen, The Csardas Princess, and The Merry Widow. She has achieved great success and acclaim from European reviewers for her performance as Armgard in the world premiere of the first Offenbach opera The Nymphs of the Rhine (Die Rheinnixen).
As a concert singer, Martina Zadro performs withthe Czech Philharmonic Orchestra, the Zagreb Philharmonic Orchestra, the Croatian Radio and TelevisionSymphony Orchestra, the Slovene Philharmonic Orchestra andthe Prague Philharmonic Orchestra. She has collaborated with the following conductors: Massimo Zanetti, Milan Horvat, Ilan Volkov, Aleksandar Rahbari, Vjekoslav Šutej, Serge Baudo and David de Villiers.
Besides numerous awards in Croatia, Martina won the “Lucia Popp” (Slovakia) and “Antonin Dvořak”(Czech Republic) international vocal competitionsin 1999.
Since 2005, Martina has been a teacher at the Music Academy in Zagreb, presently as Assistant Professor in the Voice Department.
