o Fiscal Advisor, Debbie Peele
§ ASNMSU funded by student fees – discussion on raising, lowering fees, etc
§ Student Fee Review Board
§ Issue on allocating fees to student organizations – never enough money
§ End-of-year decision issues – not in writing
§ NEED SFRB DECISIONS IN WRITING.
§ Want decisions reflected in GAA and/or in bill passed through first Senate meeting
§ Budget being changed after May 1st by state, after Fiscal Advisor can’t adjust it
§ Changes related to SFRB changes that Fiscal Advisor not given information about
§ Intramurals – FA told that intramurals being put in Health and Wellness, then found out at second Senate meeting in May that intramurals not being put into H & W
§ After a lot of research, meetings, etc, out university is committed to fund intramurals this year. $75,000.
§ On the $107,00 added to Surplus balance – two ASNMSU Presidents past, negotiation in exchange for less cuts that 107k goes to athletics. 107k in budget for almost a year, previous president asks for it to give to athletics. Mid-April by this point. Different bill went through, misunderstanding that it was in lieu of 107k bill.
§ New President’s term began in May, Kevin Prieto having to deal with ongoing 107k demand since fiscal year not over till June
§ Received 107k back in October thanks to Prez
§ Also fought against 80k to intramurals, but not successful
§ Question by Senator McCarty because previous President spoke on winding down intramurals–apparently did not know that one more year of funding was promised
§ Comments by Pro Tempore – Good work to President. Irregular and inappropriate handling of two intramural bills passed on first meeting of 61st Senate through Committee of a Whole. Three new bills to go through–one for Intramurals bills, one for Law Book change on SFRB decisions to give them to GAA, one for regulating President’s authority on negotiations that should involve SFRB.
§ Question by Senator Jones on obtaining intramural negotiation e-mails and written statement by Budget Director
§ Response – negotiations unlikely on 75k, already looked for information/e-mails otherwise
§ Question by Senator McCarty on Health and Wellness funding
§ Response – always been splitting funding between ASNMSU and Health and Wellness
§ Intramurals still planned on being transferred to H & W
§ Comment by Pro Tempore on if Senate could see e-mails
§ Question by Senator Beatty on the reasoning for no written statements/paper trails on decisions
§ Response – Has requested change
§ Question by Senator Beatty on whether 107k will go to athletics or not–it won’t, will stay in Surplus balance
