NOMINEES FOR ENJOY & ACHIEVE: UNDER 11
Phantira Phothong: Came to this country two years ago and could not speak English, she has studied very hard and is now fluent in English. She has been through so much in the past 2 years. However she maintains her smile and positive attitude.
Queensbury Juniors: Hail or snow this rugby team practices three times a week and they never complain. They all work together and promote team work and they enjoy & achieve, win or lose. They show dedication to practice and improve in the sport they love.
James Saukila: James is in year 6, he is a model pupil and is always conscientious and hard working. He works hard in class, always gains top marks and is a shining example to his peers. James always strives hard with his learning and development, he takes all problems in his stride.
NOMINEES FOR ENJOY & ACHIEVE: 12-25
Keri Barlow: Keri teaches a dance group of 7 girls aged from 13 to 19.One of the girls is in a wheel chair, and she encourages another young person with learning difficulties to take part and join in the activities. By doing this she has not only built their self confidence but also given the other young people confidence and self esteem.
Seetal Mistry: Seetal is a member of the Student Council and she actively campaigns for whole school issues, fair trade issues and generally works proactively to improve the school community. Seetal also went to Russia as an ambassador for Science students in Bradford and she took part in the International Space Olympics and has achieved excellent results in her English literature examination.
Dale Hacking: Dale is a valuable member of Shipley detached team. Dale outshines most young people in activities. His level of participation in activities & supporting worker and young people is fantastic. He regularly supports workers in preparing activities.

Zaki Rehman: Zaki loves to get involved, he joins as many activities as he can, and he promotes everything he learns. He is a role model to all the young children in his school, he shows his support whenever he can, and he is always gaining merits for being good. Zaki has lots of friends and his friends feel he is very supportive.
NOMINEES FOR BE HEALTHY: 12-25
Arslan Boota: Is a young man with complex health needs, he has severe disabilities and no verbal communication skills. Despite this he has recently become a member of the young people’s interview panel. Arslan enjoys doing this which has given him independence away from his family.
Mudasser Noor: was a participant on the Activity Agreement programme.He had low self esteem and has been bullied at school. At first he was very shy and quiet and did not leave home. He started a confidence-building programme. He has since started at Bradford College and is doing a course full time which he is enjoying.
Jenna Atkinson:Came to work at Upfront Young people’s Sexual Health and teenage pregnancy team in May 2008 for a 6 week placement. Jenna went to Park Lane College, Keighley and has developed a resource pack, to support young mums which is now used in the community.
NOMINEES FOR POSITIVE CONTRIBUTION: UNDER 11
Mannan & Hannan Hussein: Have helped the commissioning team recruit Barnado’s to provide Seen and Heard to children in care. They interviewed companies and also helped design the specification for the monitoring and commissioning cycle.
Michael Goodwin: Started attending Ellar Carr in September last year, He has worked very hard, been good company and a lovely member of his class group. He is trying very hard with his learning. His attendance is excellent. He contributes well to his class group.
Khateeja Akhtar: was recently elected as Chair person for the school council and has taken to this role with great enthusiasm. At a recent governors meeting she presented a report on the new playground in school and talked clearly and with confidence about the impact it had on all the children in her school.
NOMINEES FOR POSITIVE CONTRIBUTION 12-25
James McDonald: Has been a volunteer at Wednesday Leisure Club, which is a provision for young people and members with special needs and disabilities since he was 14 years old. He has consistently committed to supporting the needs of the members with dedication and commitment. James is a wonderful advocate for all young people, always putting the needs of others before his own.
Abdul Romeel:At 17 years old Abdul is a young man who is using his own life experiences to help pass on knowledge and give positive advice to those younger than himself and his peers within the Manningham/Girlington community. He is a valued member of his 6th form college and is a mentor to younger students in school. He also promotes drugs awareness and environmental issues. He is a shining example of how young people can overcome issues and achieve positive things.
Mariam Ahmed: Is a determined young woman, who although in the process of overcoming her own personal barriers has made a positive contribution to community projects in Bradford, such as the Rewind Project, working on issues such as homelessness and racism. Mariam is passionate about her own personal development, giving young people a voice and making a difference to young people’s lives.
NOMINEES FOR STAY SAFE: UNDER 11
Allerton Palz Group:This group is an early intervention group, whom have currently been working within the community where they live to make changes positively and be more aware of the environment.
Trident Palz:An early intervention programme where the group have been involved within there communities, recognising what needs changing to make the communities a safer area to live. They have been involved in litter picks and working on environmental issues, creating a garden for private day nursery.
Manningham & Girlington Palz:This group of young people all live within the Manningham and Girlington communities and have put their personal issues to one side to help others within their community. As a group they have been involved in the consultation and key decision making around what activities to provide through funding received on the Manningham Make Over Initiative, such as environmental clean ups.
NOMINEES FOR STAY SAFE: 12-25
Mohammed Islam: Is an active member of the cricket team. He takes care of all the cricket equipment during and after practice sessions and matches, he has helped organise events at Attoch Park. He also identified the need to organise a football team for those young people who do not play for any other team.
The Smooth It Out Group: Is a joint venture between the Looked After Children and the Leaving Care Team and is a group for young people in care to help them prepare for the transition from care. The group provides friendship and support to young people at a difficult time. The group is supported by workers from both teams.
Bangladeshi Youth Organisation: This girls group has recently completed an Internet Safety Awareness course that was delivered inpartnership with Safety First Training and West Yorkshire Police. The course covers the Every Child Matters ‘Staying Safe’ outcome, as the course educates young people on how to stay safe online and how to identify the dangers of using chat rooms, social networking sites etc.

Sarah Nash:Is currently in year 6, she is outstanding in all her academic achievements. She is a member of the school council & sets a shining example to every younger pupil in the school. Sarah always supports others both in class and through her peer group. She is a conscientious learner.
Junior Environmental Wardens:This group has been weeding, planting and maintaining raised beds in the community. In the summer holidays they were involved with cleaning and litter picking. All children worked on a voluntary basis and continue the work on a weekly basis involving their parents in the scheme.
Amjad Hussain: After experiencing behaviour problems in school he was referred to a youth inclusion programme. He attends weekly sessions after school. It is evident that his contribution during the sessions have had a positive effect both in and out of school and he is now a member of the School Council.
NOMINEES FOR ACHIEVE ECONOMIC WELLBEING 12-25
Shuja Khan:Works on a voluntary basis for The United Forum. Thisorganisation provides social and educational activities for young people from inner city Bradford. His work has seen him link up with other groups from other areas of Bradford. This has helped enhance young people’s experiences and helped them establish long lasting friendships.
Anthony Coates:Went from dropping out of sixth form to struggling to secure employment. He was very quiet and lacked confidence at the start of a 3 week course. Anthony worked very hard to improve his skills and confidence. Whilst on the course he has regained his confidence and has impressed his managers at his new job.
Nadine Metcalfe:Takes part in helping to run a dance group every Tuesday evening at Highcroft Youth Centre. She helps around 7 young girls one of whom is in a wheelchair and one has learning difficulties. She helps to encourage all the girls aged around 13 to 19 to take part. She has encouraged confidence and self esteem.
NOMINEES FOR GROUP AWARD
Youth Audit Panel: This is a young people led group. They have undertaken research and training in order to design and develop a method for consulting with young people on the service provided to them by the Youth Service. The work they do directly improves youth provision for young people.
The Sound Project:Aims to work with young people aged 13-19 providing them with a safe, supportive and confidential meeting space to discuss issues to do with sexuality. The group have also represented the Sound Project at a number of events, including Bradford Pride. Members of this group support other young people to gain a positive identity and self esteem.
Bradford & Keighley Youth Parliament: This group have made a 2 year commitment to improving their community by volunteering their time to work on issues set by young people in Bradford, such as; Safer Communities and improved services. Without the support and commitment from these young people, the young people of Bradford would not have such an organisation to represent them.
Bradford Youth Against Child Poverty:Throughout the last year the group have become even more determined to help child poverty in the UK and such has been their enthusiasm to making a difference that over fifty young people are now involved in the group, raising awareness of the devastating impact of child poverty on families and communities.
