Lent Group - Meditation
Meeting in the vicarage for 6 weeks throughout Lent, we’ll be exploring some of the classic Spiritual Disciplines – practices that have been central to Christian life and growth throughout the centuries. This week Pia will lead us in a discussion and practice of meditation. Traditionally there are 12 disciplines (Meditation, Prayer, Fasting, Study, Simplicity, Solitude, Submission, Service, Confession, Worship, Guidance and Celebration) but we will look at 6 of them over the 6 weeks.

Perhaps they will challenge us to re-assess our fast-paced, busy lives, to find a way to go beyond superficiality into the deeper realms of our soul, and connect anew with God.

We’ll look at a different topic each week, both through the Sunday sermon and at the group the following Thursday. We’ll use the book Celebration of Disciplineby Richard Fosteravailable 2nd hand book or Kindle on Amazon (and please remember to access Amazon by registering with so St Andrew’s gets a cut!)

Questions for this week:
What things crowd your life or distract you, making it difficult to be still and listen to God?
How is meditation linked to prayer?
Will meditating make me a better person?

Looking ahead

Joanna Horner Funeral
1st March 10.30am
Those who remember the late Joanna Horner of this parish are welcome to attend her funeral at St Andrew’s.

Lent Mean Bean Challenge
Could you last for 5 days living on only beans and rice (and a little salt, but no veg or spices!) - and at the same time raise money to support the Mbutipygmie peoples of the Democratic Republic of Congo? The people of the DRC have suffered immensely over many years through conflict, corruption and poverty – but the Mbuti people suffer even more – cruelly stigmatised and treated by others as sub-human.
Revd Lesley will take the Mean Bean Challenge (19th – 23rd March) to raise money to support them. Could you join in by sponsoring or becoming a St Andrew’s Bean yourself?

Jo Cox ‘Great Get Together’ & Street Party
Saturday 23rd June

A group of St Andrew’s folk, neighbours and volunteers will be getting together in the coming weeks to plan a great big fun afternoon of summer activities, stalls and food in and around Church. Similar events will be happening nation-wide to bring a positive impact out of the death in June 2016 of Jo Cox MP. If you’d like to be part of the planning stage in the coming months, please speak to Revd Lesley.
