TN READY ELA STANDARDS AND PROJECTED COURSE OF STUDY:
READING
Students will develop the necessary skills for comprehension, analysis, evaluation and appreciation of Literature and Informational Text / Literature:
Short Stories, Novels, Poetry and Drama
*The Giver, Night, Romeo and Juliet and Bleachers
Informational Text:
Essays, US Documents, Reports
TN Ready Texts, Speeches (MLK, Lincoln and Wiesel), Research Documents
WRITING
Major focus on developing skills and preparing for Proficient score on TN Ready English I Writing Assessment in February. / Narrative/Expository/Argumentative Research:
MLA Format/Technical Writing
Conventions, Mechanics and Language:
Proper usage, parts of speech, tense, antecedents, and sentence structure
Correct Manuscript form, capitalization, punctuation and spelling
LISTENING, SPEAKING AND VIEWING
Participation in group work and discussion
Making judgments about media presentations
Preparing and making judgments presentations
Homework and Classwork:
Students can expect daily class/group assignments and activities, Students can expect homework typically practice lessons in grammar, completing classwork or extended writing projects. Daily goals and activities will be posted on the board each day.
Attendance:
Success in any class requires good attendance and mature student choices. Poor attendance results in the inability to participate in group activities, discussions, class activities, group projects, and has a negative effect on the students performance in every class. MAKE UP WORK IS THE RESPONSIBILITY OF THE STUDENT! STUDENTS MUST ASK FOR MISSED WORK AND SCHEDULE AND TIME TO COMPLETE THE ASSIGNMENTS MISSED. ALL MAKE UP WORK HAS TO BE COMPLETED WITHIN THREE DAYS OF HIS/HER RETURN.
Grade Distribution:
Students can expect grades to be weighted the same. Grades are given various assignments and activities throughout the semester.
RULES AND POLICIES:
  • Arrive to class on time with all needed materials
  • Respect all others and their property.
  • Be attentive and communicate effectively
  • Keep classroom and area clean
  • All MCHS and Marion County School Board Policies will be followed. Students were provided a handbook the first day of school.
