Candidate Websites

Visit the websites of the two major candidates for U.S. Congress and the three major candidates for Governor and blog about what you learn.

  1. Candidates to represent Massachusetts’ 10th district in Congress:

Bill Keating (D) –

Jeff Perry (R) –

  1. Candidates for Governor:

Charlie Baker (R) –

Tim Cahill (I) –

Deval Patrick (D) –

  1. At each site, read about the candidates’ backgrounds and their beliefs about the issues.
  • Most sites have the background information under an “about” tab or a “meet …” tab.
  • Most sites list the candidate’s beliefs about the issues under the title: issues. As the incumbent, Deval Patrick calls this section accomplishments.
  • Patrick has no biography at his campaign site. At there is a biography available by clicking on his picture then his name.
  • Notice that the issues each candidate discusses are different. Several of the issues overlap in each race.
  1. After reading about the candidates, blog about what you learn:

a)Pick one candidate for each race and write a paragraph summarizing what you learned about his background from the website. (2 total paragraphs)

b)Pick an issue for each race that all the candidates (in that race) discuss under the issues section of their website. Write a paragraph comparing the ideas of each candidate in the race about that issue. Do this for both races (2 total paragraphs).

c)Pick a candidate you would support in each race if you could vote. Write a paragraph explaining who you picked in each race and why you picked them. (1 paragraph)

Notes:

  • Feel free to visit the websites of other candidates beside the major party/well-known independent candidates listed. Include them in your answers if you choose.
  • Write complete paragraphs of at least five sentences. Double check your spelling and grammar – this a blog entry not a text message. Ignoring appropriate spelling and grammar will lower your grade.
