Founded in 1923, the Benrus Watch Co. of Switzerland was the brainchild of Benjamin Lazrus, who used the letters of his name to come up with his company’s name, quite ingenious if not modest!This very clean and original men’s 1966 timepiece is very Retro Modern in design and in excellent condition, complete with crosshair sub-seconds dial, gold ridged hour markers and curved lugs. Measuring 36mm end to end and 31mm in width (32mm with original crown, this watch is FIVE TIMES signed “Benrus” and runs very well, keeping accurate time via its Rose Gold finished 17 jewel manual wind movement. The original silver satin-finish dial is in mint condition and features applied gold numbers and faceted hour markers, gold dagger tip metal hands that shine and a cross-hair sub-seconds dial with sweeping gold seconds hand. Signed BENRUS in black lettering below the 12 and SHOCK ABSORBER above the 6. It is further signed SWISS below the 6 marker. The original domed crystal is clear and flawless. The case is 14K gold electroplated to 20 microns and in excellent condition. The winding crown is original and excellent shape as well, signed Benrus in raised letters.Turning the watch over I find that the back lid is stainless steel and signed Levis E. Hogan, CFMS. Ft. Denens, June 1967 in the center. (this watch was owned by a Canadian Forces Medical Service Officer during the Vietnam war). It is also signed “Benrus – 20 Micron Gold Electroplated Base Metal Bezel, Stainless Steel Back.” Peeking inside I find a trusty and fine quality 1281 A. Schild Caliber Rose Gold finished Seventeen Jewel manual wind movement that is signed BENRUS WATCH CO., MODEL DN 2F, SEVENTEEN 17 JEWELS, 66, SWISS, AXZ. The “66” is the date code for this watch, and the 1281 caliber number is found below the balance wheel. The inside of the case lid is signed Cased and Timed by Benrus Watch Co.. This watch winds and sets smoothly while keeping very good time. Comes complete with a new 16mm black Crocodile Calf strap with gold-finished buckle for a superb look, I can also put a brown strap on if you wish. A clean, near mint condition Swiss timepiece with a military history that is ready to be worn and enjoyed. There is no reserve so have FUN kids!
