HONORS HEALTH DISEASE UNIT GROUP PROJECT

ASSIGNMENT

Your project has 4parts worth 25 points each.

Part I: Article Summaries

You are to complete two article summaries related to your

disease using the previous article summary format for the class. Note: Article summaries should not come from Fact sheets.

Part II: PowerPoint

Create an original PowerPoint presentation on your topic. Be creative as your group will be showing it to your classmates!

Your PowerPoint must be at least 12 slides (each person must complete at

least 2 of the information slides) and include the following information:

 The name of your disease and any other name(s) that it is also known as (1 pt.)

 The cause of the disease ( 3 pts.)

 Symptoms and signs of the disease (3 pts.)

 Transmission of the disease (3 pts.)

 Effect(s) of the disease(3 pts.)

 Treatment(s) and/or cure(s) for the disease(3 pts.)

 Prevention for the disease (if there is no prevention, specify why not)(3 pts.)

 Any important dates, statistics, famous people, or other information about the disease(3 pts.)

Your PowerPoint must also include:

*at least 3 statistics slides about your disease put in chart or graph format, if possible.

*at least 4 graphics related to the disease.

Note: Graphics can go on any slide.

*a formal bibliography from atleast 5 different sources.(3pts.)

Note: Please make sure that your Row # and Period appear on the title slide of your PowerPoint. The title slide does not count as one of the 12 required

for the project. Please also turn in a typed sheet indicating which slides are done by each person in your group.

Part III:Poster

You are to create an original poster which depicts information about your disease. Be creative!

Your poster must:

 Be no smaller than 16x 16 and no larger than18 x 24.

 Have information from at least 3 of your slides from the PowerPoint. (15 pts.)

 Have your Row #, Period, and the Date on the back.

 Be neat (typed information) with no spelling errors.

 Have at least one 3-D item attached to it that is related to the disease

(becreative).(5 pts.)

 Be colorful and creative (one that you would be proud to see displayed in my

classroom).

 Contain at least 2 other graphics related to the disease.(5 pts.)

Part IV: Presentation

Your group will give a maximum 10 minute informational (and hopefully entertaining) presentation about your disease. Every member of the group must be involved in the presentation.

1. You are to type (double spaced no larger than 12 pt.) a minimum one full-page summary of any health related article from a magazine or newspaper. You are required to write in complete sentences to answer the questions below.

2. Articles should be current (not more than 2 years old) and can come from sources such as :

Research Periodicals (ex. New England Journal of Medicine or other professional journals)
