Concept Definition

Protection from harmor injury for patients and providers through both system effectiveness and individual performance.

Objectives

  1. Review what the concept means (including definition, antecedents and attributes).
  2. Explain how the time-out procedure, core measures, and anticipatory guidance relate to the concept of Safety.
  3. Analyze conditions that place an individual at risk of injury when core measures and anticipatory guidance or a time-out procedure are needed.
  4. Identify when safety is compromised related to core measures, anticipatory guidance and in a time-out situation.
  5. Discuss exemplars of core measures, anticipatory guidance, and of time-out occurrences.
  6. Apply the nursing process with collaborative interventions and evaluation for individuals experiencing surgery or a procedure requiring a time-out, or experiencing conditions related tocore measures or anticipatory guidance.
