Protection from harmor injury for patients and providers through both system effectiveness and individual performance.

Objectives
- Review what the concept means (including definition, antecedents and attributes).
- Explain how the time-out procedure, core measures, and anticipatory guidance relate to the concept of Safety.
- Analyze conditions that place an individual at risk of injury when core measures and anticipatory guidance or a time-out procedure are needed.
- Identify when safety is compromised related to core measures, anticipatory guidance and in a time-out situation.
- Discuss exemplars of core measures, anticipatory guidance, and of time-out occurrences.
- Apply the nursing process with collaborative interventions and evaluation for individuals experiencing surgery or a procedure requiring a time-out, or experiencing conditions related tocore measures or anticipatory guidance.
