NEW OBSTETRICIAN/GYNECOLOGIST BEGINS LOCAL PRACTICE

Dr. Michel Prevost, an experienced Obstetrician/Gynecologist (OBS/GYN) from Ottawa, has opened a practice in Almonte, effective immediately.

Dr. Prevost, who has been granted OBS/GYN privileges at the Almonte General Hospital (AGH), says he is delighted to be joining the AGH team just as the Hospital is embarking on a Redevelopment Project that includes a major expansion of the Obstetrical Unit.

“It’s very exciting to be part of this major change to the OBS unit,” he says. “I’m very happy to be a part of it and I’m looking forward to expanding the number of deliveries at the Hospital.”

Born near Sudbury, Ontario, Dr. Prevost undertook his medical training at the University of Ottawa. His experience includes five years on staff at the MontfortHospital in Ottawa, locums in Ontario at the CornwallRegionalHospital, SudburyRegionalHospital and Soldier’s MemorialHospital in Orillia and locums in Quebec at the Centre Hospitalier St-Georges de Beauce and Centre Hospitalier Chandler. He has been a member of the consulting staff of GlengarryMemorialHospital in Alexandria and the Hawkesbury and DistrictGeneralHospital.

Dr. Prevost is also an Associate Professor of third- and fourth-year medical students at the University of Ottawa and provides services at Ottawa’s Sexual Health Clinic. He has also co-authored numerous publications.

“We are absolutely delighted that someone with Dr. Prevost’s skills and experience is joining our team at AGH,” says AGH/Fairview Manor Executive Director Ray Timmons. “The timing is particularly good, given the upcoming expansion of our OBS unit.”

The AGH/Fairview Manor Redevelopment Project will expand the OBS unit to include five private rooms, a family room, two labour and delivery rooms, a surgical suite for Cesarean Sections and an open nursing station.

AGH, which operates the regional OBS program, is one of very few small hospitals in Ontario that provides 24-hour obstetrical/anaesthetic/epidural services.

“Coming from Northern Ontario, I’ve always enjoyed working in smaller community hospitals, ” says Dr. Prevost. “I’m very enthusiastic about this new challenge.”

Dr. Prevost is replacing Dr. Yasmin Aziz, who has recently resigned. His office will be located inside the Hospital, at 75 Spring Street in Almonte. For more information, call 256-7388.
