Welcome to the Colorado Classics! We are excited to have you as part of the organization. This booklet is intended to provide you with valuable information about the Classics Club. If you’d like more information, please feel free to contact an Executive Officer or board member (visit www.coloradoclassicssoftball.com for contact information).

What is our Mission?

The mission of the Colorado Club Softball Corporation (known as the Corporation or CCCSC in this document) is to provide a positive experience on and off the field for young ladies of Northern Colorado.

What is our purpose?

Our purpose is to provide quality instruction and coaching to Northern Colorado girls interested in the sport of fast pitch softball. We strive to have a positive environment that allows teams to excel, and individuals to build skills that will further their careers to the high school and collegiate levels. Excellence is expected from the coaches, players and parents of all Colorado Classics Club Softball teams.

Our teams play in sanctioned tournaments locally, statewide and may also travel outside of the state and even the country to play. The level of play is very competitive, and the schedule demanding. Families can expect 10-14 tournaments per season, typically starting in mid to late March and ending in late July.

What is our mission statement?

The mission of the Colorado Classics Club Softball organization is to provide a positive experience on and off the field for young ladies of Northern Colorado. Excellence is expected from the coaches, players and parents of all Classics teams.

Colorado Classics Teams:

The Classics may have teams at the following age groups:

·  10U

·  12U

·  14U

·  16U

·  18U

·  The organization may have teams at any or all age groups in a season. There may be more than one team per age group, but not more than two. Typically teams play at the “A” or “B” level.

Team Formation:

Tryouts are held in late July/early August for the following season. All talent will be evaluated by Colorado Classics coaches and volunteers. Offers will be made to team members typically within a few days of the tryout. Once a player accepts the offer, a team meeting is held and a $150 deposit is taken. If a player accepts the offer, pays the deposit, and then changes teams or changes their mind, the $150 deposit is not refundable and shall be made part of the general operating fund of the Club.

No more than 12 players shall be on any team roster without full consent of all parents on the affected team. Full consent means written approval provided to the Board of Directors.

When a player commits, they do so from the time of tryout selection thru the following season’s schedule. All efforts will be made prior to tryouts to have coaches identified at all age groups. It is understood due to certain circumstances, this may not always be possible.

Practices:

For younger age groups (14U and younger), some voluntary outdoor practices may be held in late summer and fall. Fall tournaments may also be played.

Mandatory practice will begin in January and last thru the end of the season. Indoor practice typically runs from January – March/April (dependent on weather). Practices are held twice a week and are typically 1.5-2 hours each. When the weather improves in the spring, practices will move outdoors to a local practice field.

Attendance at the mandatory practice sessions is expected. Failure to practice during this time may affect playing time during the season. Coaches should be informed about a player’s absence prior to the practice time.

Some practices may overlap with other teams in similar or different age groups. This is to provide an opportunity for player mentoring, coaching development and camaraderie among Classics teams of all ages.

How we communicate:

Typically information will be distributed via email. You may also receive information via text message. Our website will be another great place to check for communication about Classics tournaments and events. That site is www.coloradoclassicssoftball.com.

Colorado Classics Board of Directors:

The Classics are required to have a board of directors. The Board will meet quarterly to discuss team progress, finances, upcoming events, concerns and wins! These meetings will be held in September (Let’s get organized! & Fundraising), January (Budgeting & Fundraising), April (Ready to Play) and July (Wrap Up & Celebration!).

The board is made up of three executive positions: President, Vice President and Secretary/Treasurer. Each team has a Team Manager who is also on the board. The Founder of the organization is on the board as well. Nominations are made and approved by the previous season’s board.

2014-2015 Executive Board

Vice President: Sarah Long (214-9185 )

Secretary/Treasurer: Lana Schueler (225-0183 )

Team Manager: Wendy VanDenBosch (689-8126 )

Team Manager:

The role of the board is to ensure the Classics organization is following the rules and regulations of the IRS, is financially viable, organized and maintains a sense of order and simplicity. The coaches manage the details, organization and financial decisions of their teams once budgets are determined.

Coaches:

Our goal is to have coaches in place before tryouts occur. Coaches are required to submit an application that will be processed by the Colorado Bureau of Investigation to ensure we have done proper background checks. The board may be required to interview and select coaching candidates as needed. It is our expectation that coaches would have former coaching experience and/or softball or baseball experience.

Coaches will determine how much parent help, if any, they would like to have. Each coach is different. Coaches will ask for your assistance if they’d like it. This may vary from practice to practice. Asking for assistance does not necessarily constitute a permanent spot on the coaching staff.

Coaches will typically not hold meetings with parents during a tournament. Any meeting will need to be scheduled with the coaching staff after the tournament has concluded.

Team Volunteers:

Team Manager: The Team Manager is appointed by the team to the board. The primary responsibility of the Team Manager is to be a communication liaison between the coaching staff and players/parents. The Team Manager assists the team with uniform ordering and other organizational needs. The Team Manager also ensures finances flow from the team to the Treasurer and from the Treasurer to the team. The Team Manager keeps families informed of budget deadlines, shortfalls, and monthly statements.

Travel:

Teams may choose to travel throughout the state and outside of the state to play tournaments. Even though accommodations may be made thru the Team Manager, individual families are responsible for travel costs. Items such as plane tickets for players may be included in the budget. Any costs that benefit family members cannot be paid for with fundraised dollars (i.e. the player budget cannot pay for the hotel room that includes mom, dad, brother and player as guests).

Budgets:

Team budgets will be set in January at the board meeting. Coaches will attend that meeting. These are best estimations at the time for season tournaments and all associated costs. It is possible that these budgets may need to change throughout the season and any changes requiring additional monies from families will be discussed between the coaching staff and the families. Fundraising (separate document) is available to offset the costs associated with budgets.

Once the budget is determined, 1/3 of the total amount due will be required to be deposited by January 15. The next 1/3 will be due February 15 and the final 1/3 by April 1. It is important you budget appropriately to meet these deadlines.

Equipment:

Each player will need to have the following equipment:

·  Glove

·  Batting helmet with facemask (black helmet)

·  Bat

·  Batting gloves (optional)

·  Heart guard (optional)

·  Fielders mask (optional)

·  Catcher’s gear

Uniforms:

Uniforms will be selected for each team and will be similar if not exact for each team. Uniform pieces include pants in multiple colors, jerseys, socks, hoodies, pullover jackets, bat bags and helmets. Helmets should be black or black and white. Players will wear specific uniforms and are expected to look sharp! We should be proud every time we see a Classics team on the field.

Players on the same team cannot have the same uniform number. Your daughter may choose any number she would like but should she move “up” to a team the following season that already has a player with the same number, she will be required to change her number and endure the expense of so doing.

Fan Gear:

We will offer a variety of “Fan” shirts, hats and decals that will be available for purchase.

More details on these items will be available soon thru the Team Managers.

Thank you for choosing the Colorado Classics as YOUR team! We look forward to watching teams do well on and off the field.
