FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Smith Mountain Lake, VA – Oct 5, 2016

Brooke Marcy to Judge SMAC Art Show

Brooke Marcy, the Curator at Riverviews Artspace in Lynchburg, VA and former art instructor at Randolph College and George Mason University, will be the judge for the Smith Mountain Arts Council's 2016 Art Show.

Brooke's love of art began in pre-school, carried through her public and private school years, and her formal education at Hamilton College, the Art Students League in New York, the School of the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston, and George Mason University, from which she received her MFA. She has worked within the art world at the Museum of Modern Art and the Art Capital Group, both in New York City.

She is a dedicated award winning oil painter and strong supporter of the arts. Her paintings borrow the compositions, styles and symbolism of 16th and 17th century Dutch still life painters while introducing the modern. In contrast to the foods found in the old master paintings, her work highlights some of the unhealthy, inexpensive, and highly processed foods, which are readily available and frequently consumed by Americans. When looking at the paintings, she hopes the viewer will consider the disconnect that has occurred over time between ourselves, our food sources, and the effects that these foods have on our health and lifestyle.

She has exhibited and is in collections nationally and internationally, including such places as Boston, New York, Washington D.C, Los Angles, San Francisco, New Orleans, Richmond, and Sichuan, China.

SMAC will hold an opening reception and announcement of awards on Friday, Oct 21 at 6:30 pm. The exhibit will be open Oct. 22 and 23, from 10 am to 4 pm. The reception and the exhibit are free and open to the public.
