Central Illinois Volunteer Association (CIVA) provides professional development and continuing education opportunities for people concerned with the advancement of volunteerism.

WOMEN TO WOMEN TO HOST COMMUNITY CONVERSATION SEPT. 19

Illinois Prairie Community Foundation’s Women to Women Giving Circle will host a Community Conversation on Early Intervention from 4:30-6 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 19, at the Illinois State University Alumni Center, 1101 N. Main St., Normal.

Women to Women is looking to add new voices and foster collaboration within our community to help address this issue. Nonprofit organizations in Central Illinois and others interested in improving the lives of women and girls are invited to attend.

Admission is free and no reservation is required.

The event also introduces Women to Women’s grant focus for 2018 – programs that seek to offer early intervention to children ages 0-5 and their parents to pave the way for girls to achieve their highest potential. W2W encourages interested nonprofits to work each other to address a need and submit a grant together. The grant application window will be open for one month starting in early October.

Threshold to Hope, Inc. is a new nonprofit dedicated to offering hope and healing through the power of art to those who can least afford it. They are currently offering free art classes or open art on Mondays and Fridays from 10:00am to 2:00pm at Prairie315, 315 N Prairie St, Bloomington (on the corner of Monroe and Prairie). Donations are accepted but never expected. No one ever turned away due to lack of funds. This is a drop in program designed for adults.

Young at Heartland Theatre’s Acting Troupe will present FOUR scenarios that illustrate dilemmas that families may face as end of life decisions become important for loved ones. Audience interaction and participation is welcomed.Having to make healthcare decisions can be unexpected at any time during our lives. Such decisions may involve candidly discussing end of life wishes with the relevant family member(s), completing an Advance Directive if desired, and identifying the person to be your advocate for making medical decisions if you are unable to do so.

Brick by Brick Duplo Story Time

Let’s read, build, and play together! Attendees will listen to a story, build specific elements of the story with Duplo bricks, and play together with others beginning at 10am in the Bloomington Public Library Story Room. Block play encourages children to describe their actions to retell their own story about their creations. Taking pictures of your child’s projects is encouraged since blocks will not go home. This program is intended to be a child and adult shared experience. Note: This program is not suitable for groups. Please leave your own blocks at home.

Tales for Tails pairs trained and certified therapy dogs with children who want to practice reading aloud. Upon arrival, children will be assigned a 10-minute session with one of the dogs.

The University of Illinois Extension is bringing you Dave’s Supermarket Tours: Meatless Meals. This program will be held on September 19, 2017 from 6-7 p.m. at Dave’s Supermarket, 120 S. 3rd St., Fairbury, Ill. The tour will meet in the deli area. The program is free of charge and no registration is necessary. The first steps to eating healthier is buying healthy foods at the grocery store. Discover a variety of delicious meatless options that satisfies taste and nutrition. You’ll take home a reusable grocery bag full of goodies, including a packet of meatless recipes. Sterile Feral Foundation 3rd Annual Fall Dinner Fundraiser - Sunday, October 8, 2017, 5:00-7:00 PM

Shopping: Many generous volunteers have donated home-made items including t-shirts and aprons, a variety of ceramics, catnip toys and wraps, kitchen hand towels, blankets and throws, and much more!!! Your generous donations for these items help pay for neutering and spaying members of the feral colonies in our neighborhoods, helping to control the homeless cat population!

And fellowship: Meet other members of the community and hear their stories of how they contribute to helping control the homeless cat populations in their own neighborhoods.
