Call for postdoctoral position at NARIC HAKI

The National Agricultural Research and Innovation Centre, Research Institute for Fisheries and Aquaculture (acronym: NARIC HAKI) is a leading institute for applied research and development in the field of aquaculture and fisheries in Hungary.
In co-operation with several Hungarian and foreign universities, research institutes and fish farmers’ associations, NARIC HAKI has successfully led and/or participated in several national and European research projects: i.e Lucioperca, Eurocarp (http://eurocarp.haki.hu), Aquamax, Sustain aqua (http://www.ttz-bremerhaven.de/en/research/environment/research-projects/962-sutainaqua.html), Cleanhatch (http://www.cleanhatch.net/), Aquaexcel (http://www.aquaexcel.eu/), Arraina (http://arraina.eu/), Barra09, etc. (mentioning only the major ones in the last decade).

The AQUAREDPOT project
The full name of the EU-FP7 project is: Improvement of research and innovation potential of Research Institute for Fisheries, Aquaculture and Irrigation (HAKI) to promote technological development in Central and Eastern European aquaculture, focus on the development of the human and infrastructural resources of the institute. In the frame of Aquaredpot project two new post-doctoral positions are available in the following fields:
1. Aquaculturist (experience in pond aquaculture management)
2. Fish geneticist (experience in selective breeding programs)
The general content of the postdoctoral work
Contribution to the running research projects, creating project-funded research works on the relevant topics, cooperation with the members of the aquaculture sector (fish producers, feed producers, veterinary organizations, system designers etc.) and consultancy work for local and regional fish-farmers.
General requirements for the positions
PhD or similar degree preferably obtained after June 2003. The minimum number of articles published in international periodicals with impact factor are three, with at least of two articles where the candidate is the first author. Good knowledge of English which will be checked through the interview. Work experience on the relevant topic.
Detailed requirements for each positions and the selection procedure
Aquaculturist
The candidate for this position should have broad theoretical knowledge in the fields of freshwater aquaculture both in extensively and intensively operated systems. The practical knowledge acquired in pond aquaculture in the previous works will be highly preferred. The candidate must be dedicated to the job, which means – among others – that he is willing to be “on call” continuously for long periods of time.

Fish geneticist
The ideal candidate for this position should have broad theoretical knowledge in the field of fish genetics and reproduction biology and a wide range of technical/practical skills in the field of fish breeding, gene banks and different molecular genetic techniques (i.e.: PCR, gel electrophoresis). The main tasks of the new employee will be the maintenance and development of the ex-situ common carp gene bank of HAKI and participation in selection and domestication programs on common carp and other fish species using the traditional methods together with molecular genetics tools.
