Overview
IB 10 English seeks to incorporate the IB Middle Years’ Program (MYP) Fundamental Concepts of Holistic Learning. The course looks to develop the whole student by using a number of assignments linked across the curriculum. IB stresses a variety of written, verbal, and visual texts from around the world that emphasize intercultural awareness. Communication is stressed using a variety of techniques including writing, discussion seminars, presentations, and group work. The aim of MYP English 10 is to create lifelong learners who exhibit the traits of the MYP learner profile. The course objective will be achieved via the themes of self-exploration, coming of age, and what it means to be human. All activities in the class address the Alabama Common Core Standards for English Language Arts. The methodology of MYP English 10 includes direct instruction, inquiry, resource based learning, problem based learning and student constructed knowledge.
Methods of Assessment
Each student will receive a quarterly letter grade corresponding to a 4.0 scale. All assignments will be used to produce a final grade. Larger assignments will be graded using the IB MYP rubric based grade. All assignments unless otherwise noted will receive points which correspond to letter grades listed in the grading policy. All MYP English 10 students will participate in the MYP Personal Project that will be broken into each core subject.
