About the King’s Learning Institute
King’s Learning Institute works to enhance teaching and learning within King’s College London and promote research into higher education within and beyond the College. A focus of the King’s Learning Institute is on enhancing the student experience, promoting student engagement and the learning experiences and engagement within and beyond formal academic settings, how students learn in different disciplinary settings and how students experience textual and visual practices.
Role Specification
This internship has two areas of focused. Firstly,to develop online training guides to aid better use of the learning technologies (predominately KEATS) to engage students. Secondly, to design and develop a data visualisation tool, which will demonstrate student employability research.The main location will be in James Clerk Maxwell Building, Waterloo Campus for preparation and at the Strand for the conference.
Main role- tasks, responsibilities, areas of exposure
- Project/resource planning
- Creation of simulation software guidesusing Adobe Captivate software
- Setup and development of a WordPress site
- Tagging of data and uploading of research content to WordPress site
- Designing a user interface for the research data
Internship Outcomes
The intern will gain work experience creating resources that help engage staff and students with Technology Enhanced Learning (TEL).In addition creating resources to milestones, and developing a data visualisations software interface, which aim is to engage the audience in employability research findings.
Person specification
One internship is available to a postgraduate seeking to gain experience of creating simulation user guides and user computer interaction/support. Please note this internship is currently only available to King’s students. All applicants will need to demonstrate the following abilities:
•Pro-active and able to use own initiative
•Proficient IT skills and understanding of user computer interaction
•Able to manage own time, plan and organise well
•Previous use of Adobe Captivate or similar screen casting software an advantage
•Previous use of WordPress an advantage
•Understanding of website design useful but not essential.
Students interested in user computer interaction, higher education, teaching and learning, and communication and dissemination will be looked upon favourably.
Management and support
The intern will be supported by the King’s Learning Institute Senior Education Technologist. An adequate workstation and facilities will be provided.
Dates and duration
This is a 12 week, part-time placement for 8 hours a week or 25 – 30 hours per month. The hours will be flexible within each month to accommodate students’ class, coursework and exam schedules.
The internship will start the week of 29thJune 2015(flexible start based on exams schedules) and run through end of August/start of July.
Payment
Payment for the internship will be £10.76 per hour. Arrangements will be discussed with shortlisted candidates.
