Title / Café Manager
Salary / £18,000 to £20,000 depending on experience
Hours / 37, due to the nature of the business the postholder must be willing to work evenings, weekends and bank holidays.

About the Bishops Palace / The site and buildings of The Bishop’s Palace and Gardens is owned by the Church Commissioners and managed by The Palace Trust. As a charitable organisation our mission is to protect The Bishop’s Palace by ensuring financial stability through engaging a wide range of people for their enjoyment and learning.
The Bishop’s Table Café serves delicious locally-sourced homemade food and some of the best coffee and cake you will find in Wells. It provides daily catering services to visitors, regular customers and staff. The Bishop’s Palace hosts a growing number of private events throughout the year including weddings, family celebrations, diocesan and corporate events.
Purpose of role / To ensure the seamless running of Cafe service in the most efficient and effective manner delivering the highest possible standards of customer care, whilst being pro-active in maintaining and improving sales.

Key tasks – What the Palace Trust expects / Staff Management
·  Induct, train and direct Café Assistants and any additional staff
·  Ensure that café staff provide a warm and welcoming environment and that customer service is efficient and outstanding
·  Manage staff rotas, hours, holidays and timesheets
·  Ensure high levels of cleanliness and hygiene are met at all times
·  Maintain excellent levels of communication with the café team and broader Palace team
·  Ensure all staff are knowledgeable about The Bishop’s Palace, promoting it to customers and responding to visitor queries
·  Carry out all tasks to ensure the smooth operation of the service area (i.e. the serving of food, drinks and clearing of tables) always maintaining the highest possible standards
·  Carry out general tasks as required ensuring the smooth operation of the company (i.e. clearing, dishwashing, replenishing of stocks)
·  As required, providing assistance in the kitchen with preparing food and other preparations
·  Assisting staff to deal with customer complaints on-site and on-line
·  Agree and implement actions to continuously improve the visitor experience
Maximising Profit
·  Replenish the merchandise for sale in the café to maximise sales
·  Ensure all staff are proactively selling all items
·  Receive deliveries of stock, ensuring that all stock is delivered as specified by the supplier. Ensure that damaged stock and incorrect items are reported to the supplier within 48 hours
Finance
·  Undertake closing, cashing up and banking procedures
·  Record all food and beverage sales accurately on the till to ensure the effective reporting of results
·  Participate in stock takes as required
·  Write the staff budget and monitor staff costs keeping within budget
Health and Safety
Adhere to Health and Safety regulations set out by the Palace Trust in accordance with its statutory regulations, in particular:
·  Report accidents
·  Ensure safe use of machinery and equipment to minimise any risk of injury
·  Take part in good housekeeping practices
·  Take reasonable care for health and safety of yourself and those around you who may be affected by your acts or omissions at work
Other Duties
·  Work with the Marketing Manager to promote The Bishop’s Table
·  In addition to the above, the post-holder may be required to undertake other reasonable duties and responsibilities which are compatible with the overall scope and authority of the appointment, in discussion with the Line Manager
·  Attend training courses as required

Person Specification

Essential / Desirable
Knowledge and Experience / ·  A levels plus GCSE English and Maths or equivalent
·  Excellent track record of hospitality management and customer service
·  Handling money / ·  Food Safety in Catering Level 2
·  Barista experience
Skills and abilities / ·  Excellent interpersonal skills for diplomatically handling staff and customers
·  The ability to cope under pressure in a fast-paced environment
·  Good business awareness for achieving successful performance
·  Able to lead and motivate a team
·  The ability to work independently and confidently to make your own decisions
·  Commercial awareness
Personal Attributes / ·  Customer orientated
·  Flexibility in relation to duties and working hours that will include evenings, weekends and bank holidays
