INSTRUCTOR
JOSE’ M. ALENTADO has over 22 years of law enforcement experience. His past law enforcement assignments included patrol, vice, narcotics, communications, special operations, SWAT, and training. He served as the program manager for the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center (FLETC), where he received five awards for his work in law enforcement Spanish training. Jose is a native Spanish speaker, and has broad experience in developing practical usage of Spanish language in the law enforcement environment. Mr. Alentado’s three and five day programs have been the only programs and instructor in the nation to have been independently evaluated, finding the course and instructor to be efficient for the length of presentation. He has a Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice/Adult Education.
COURSE OBJECTIVES
This 24-hour class will provide your officers with the techniques necessary to interview Spanish speakers successfully, complete a report form using Spanish, and learn Street Spanish Terminology. They will also learn short arrest/control phrases that may prevent unnecessary force. The graduate may increase his/her interaction between themselves and the Latino community.
COURSE CONTENT
· Spanish Alphabet, Phonetics, and Pronunciation Rules and How to Gather Accurate Information
· Using Words and Phrases to Control Situations
· Holidays Critical to Personnel Deployment
· Gang, Street, Danger, Weapon and Drug Terminology in Spanish.
· Ways to determine if a subject speaks English.
· Traffic, and Other Vehicle Stops
