The first 2010 LSAC Academic Assistance Topical Workshop will be held at FloridaCoastalLawSchool in Jacksonville, Florida, May 19-20, 2010. Presenters will describe the ways in which technological innovations can be used to enhance teaching and learning.

Who Should Attend

This workshop is open to all academic assistance professionals from LSAC member law schools.

Registration Fees and Information

Enrollment for this workshop is limited, and registration forms will be accepted on a first-come, first-served basis. Registrations will be accepted until the enrollment limit is reached. The workshop is being subsidized by LSAC. Participants are required to pay a registration fee of $35.00. The registration fee covers all meals. However, attendees are responsible for their own travel and lodging expenses. Only one person per law school may register until April 28, 2010. After April 28, 2010 additional registrants will be accepted as long as space is available.

Each registrant must make his or her own hotel reservations and be responsible for all lodging expenses. The Florida Coastal School of Law has reserved a block of rooms at a local hotel. If you require lodging please contact the hotel directly.

The room rate is $89.00 per night. The room rate includes breakfast buffet and complimentary high speed internet in guest rooms. In order to receive the group rate of $89.00 per night you must make your reservation by Wednesday, April 28, 2010. If you make your reservations after the deadline the regular room rate is $199.95.

There will be a shuttle service between the law school and the hotel during the workshop. The shuttle service will transport participants from the law school to the airport at the conclusion of the workshop.

Travel Arrangements

Travel subsidies are not available to topical training workshops.

Smoking Policy

Smoking is prohibited in all university classrooms, meeting facilities, and dining rooms. Guests are permitted to smoke outside of university buildings.

Technology 101 (11:00-12:45): This session is for ASP professionals that are new to using technology. It will cover the basic information needed to start putting technology to work in the classroom and beyond. Participants will learn the basics of how to use Facebook, My Space, Twitter, CALI, TWEN, Blackboard, Blogging, Podcasts, Survey Monkey, and Audacity. If you need a starter course on using technology in education, this is the session for you!

Technology 201: These breakout sessions are designed for those who (i) already have a basic understanding of and familiarity with technology, and (ii) are ready to start putting it in practice. Each session will provide you with practical applications for using the technology in your programs/classrooms. Each session will be repeated twice during the AM “Technology in Action” session, and once during the PM “Technology in Action” session—so that attendees may attend up to three sessions. (Even if you are not able to attend a session, presentation information from each session will be made available.)

Technology 301: These sessions utilize multiple forms of technology and are for those that are ready for more advanced techniques. Sessions will include using technology for assessment and creating Distance Learning courses.
