6th Grade Glimpse

Science:We will continue our Project Based Learning opportunity for the remainder of the school year. Students will be investigating incline planes through hands on experience. We will be bringing in a physical therapist to speak to the students about incline planes and what they look for when helping their patients as well as codes to meet. Much like shark tank, students will have to use their knowledge blue print the best incline plane and then “pitch it” to be “bought”. If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact me.

Reading: We are having Christmas in May! Since we missed out on reading The Best Christmas Pageant Ever back in December, we’re ending the year with it. We’ll be reading and doing activities relating to the novel until the end of the year. Reading Log #15 is due May 11(Gold day classes) and May 12 (Blue day classes). 4th quarter AR goals must be met by May 17th. Feel free to contact me with questions or concerns and have a great week!

6th Grade Math & Accelerated Math (Mrs. Gillilan): This week 6th grade students will review for and take their Probability test. Students will need to know how to determine likelihood, experimental probability, sample spaces, theoretical probability, and making predictions. Communication Arts: Spelling Lesson 11 test will be Monday for blue classes. We will be working on conjunctions and interjections and continue working with poetry. Reminder: All homework assignments that receive a grade below a C may be redone for grade improvement. Assignments should be asked for that day and are due the next class time. Encourage your student to take advantage of this opportunity if needed.

Keyboarding: On Monday we will review for our unit test. The test will be given on Wednesday. Each student has a review sheet to help them prepare for the test. Art: Artists are working on self-portraits drawn through direct observation. This is our last project for the year. This will be due Friday 5/12/17. Any weekly sketches past sketch 6 that are turned in will be considered extra credit. 5th Block Plan 1:36pm-3:00pm

Band: Our SPRING CONCERT is this coming TUESDAY, 5/9 in the East Gym at 7:00PM. Students need to wear nice black shoes, black dress pants (or a black skirt), and their blue music t-shirt. Students should be in the band room by 6:15 to get their things ready and warm-up together. We are doing some pieces that use students from different classes, so it will be important that everyone is here by 6:15 to work on our combined portions. RISE: We will be learning about our field trip to the Pompeii exhibit at Union Station, helping with Track and Field, and having an end of year celebration. Mrs. Bell ,

Vocal: Congratulations to all vocal students on a great concert on Monday evening! Thank you for singing and working hard!

Social Studies:This week students will be covering Chapter 8 the Romans. We will discuss the Punic Wars between Rome and Carthage, along with how that war enabled Rome to be the World Power of the Mediterranean. If you have any questions my email is .
