Highrise template résumé

A résumé should be as concise as possible while giving as much information about your previous experience. When starting out a résumé does not only need to list your previous employment history as it will normally be minimal but can list many other things such as sporting commitments and achievements which you think will add value to your résumé. Keep in mind that employers are looking for people who they think will work hard and be committed at this stage of the job seeking process.

Your Name

Address, Phone, Email

This should always be listed at the top of your résumé. Do not include unneeded jargon here.

Summary/Objective

A well thought out résumé will include a paragraph regarding what your goals are and will even link them specifically to the position you are applying for

Education

List your schooling and eventually this should also include any university degrees ect you receive

Employment History

This is arguably the most important part of your résumé.

Firstly list any work you have done – Remember employers are looking for reliable staff members. Training staff members is not a cheap exercise and they are not looking at having a high turnover of staff so if you were only at a job for less than 3 months it may not be worth listing it.

If you have yet to be employed or you have very limited employment history it is also good to list any other achievements you have received, such as Duke of Edinburgh, sporting commitments or results which display a high level of commitment.

Awards & Acknowledgments

Have you been awarded with any significant school awards? Have you been recognised within the workplace in any formal way which would add to your employability? This section is not always required.

References

Include references for things you have claimed above. Make sure your references are reliable people and you ended the employment on good terms as a negative reference will almost certainly guarantee you do not get the job. If you have not yet been employed you can include character references. Always assume your references will be contacted.
