Position: Seasonal Laborer I (Wastewater Plant)

Reports To: Wastewater Plant Superintendent; Assistant Superintendent

Group / Department: Public Works/Utilities/Wastewater Treatment

Work Schedule: Monday – Friday from 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

Position Summary

Under general supervision, tasks include general labor, mowing, painting, and will assist with maintenance and janitorial duties on an as needed basis or at the direction of the Wastewater Plant Superintendent and/or Assistant Superintendent.

Job Dimensions

The City of Sidney Wastewater Plant is a 7 MGD treatment facility. Each process is subject to various types of seasonal elements which could affect the coating, appearance and functionality of each piece of equipment. The Wastewater Plant Laborer I will assist in maintaining the appearance of the facility and other sites away from the treatment plant.

Nature and Scope

The Wastewater Plant Laborer I reports to the Wastewater Plant Superintendent and/or Assistant Superintendent. General supervision is received also from other full-time employees in which the incumbent may be working with; however, the employee is expected to perform without detailed instruction.

Major Challenges

q  Clearing weeds and mowing grass.

q  Overall cleaning and scraping and or power washing of rust on equipment in preparation of painting.

q  Paint of walls and floors.

q  Assist other staff in performing general labor duties.

q  Exercising the appropriate safety precautions in performing work functions that include, but not limited to: traffic safety, spill prevention, personal protective equipment, and etc.

q  The ability to work alone and unsupervised when performing the above mentioned duties.

Other Requirements

q  Ability to work while wearing a dust mask or respirator.

q  Physically able to use a wide variety of hand and power tools, and lift as much as 50 lbs.

q  Demonstrated ability to operate, adjust and make minor repairs to equipment.

q  Must be a resident of Shelby County or an adjacent county within one year from the date of hire. Residency must be maintained throughout employment with the City of Sidney.

Qualifications

·  Candidates must possess a valid Ohio driver’s license at the time of application.

·  Candidates with previous outdoor maintenance and painting experience is a plus, but not required.
