Development Training and Research Associates Africa (DETRA-Africa) is a registered Capacity Building, Research and Consultancy Training Centre specializing in building capacity of the workforce in the development and private sector and providing unique consulting services to clients all over Africa. DETRA Africa also works with rural communities through NGO partners to provide rare field research and training in participatory field programs. DETRA Africa has over 5 years experience in providing training, while the staff bring in a combined experience of over 30 years.
Our capacity building programmes are unique in that we share our experience from the field partners we work with. Participatory approaches are applied in all our trainings. Our staff and associates are highly qualified, with 60% holding PhD degrees and 40% Masters degree in addition to other advanced certifications.

This diverse experience has enabled us to have a masterly acumen in areas such as development of value chains, economic mapping, feasibility studies, business planning, resource mobilization, evaluation and capacity building. Notable has been our support to the Agriculture and Natural Resources sub sector, in development of programmes and enterprises around furniture, vegetables, honey, fruits, vanilla, ground nuts, allanblackia, cashew nuts, cardamom, shea nut and potatoes.

Our staff have had wide consultancy and research experience internationally and have collaborated and consulted with institutions in Europe, Asia, America and many countries in Africa. We collaborate with major international organizations, including the International Federation of Organic Movements (IFOAM), Environmental Impact Assessment Association of Kenya, and the International Finance Corporation among others.
DETRA- Relevant Registration
Our staff are registered with extensive national and international reputation in Occupational Health Safety Assessments and Training; Environmental and Social Impact Assessments (ESIA), Strategic Environmental Assessment (SEA), and Environmental Audits (EA) with NEMA according to the EIA/EA practicing license as per the Fifth Schedule of the Environmental (Impact Assessment and Audit) Regulations, 2003, Legal Notice No. 101. The firm is in possession of certificate of incorporation as a company in Kenya.
