March 29 PYC Board Junior Challenge

NOTICE OF RACE

1. ORGANIZING AUTHORITY

The Organizing Authority is the Pequot Yacht Club in conjunction with the Board Junior Challenge “BJC” Committee.

2. RULES

The BJC will be governed by the 'rules' as defined in The Racing Rules of Sailing 2005 – 2008 except as modified by this Notice of Race and the Sailing Instructions.

3. CLASS

Only 9’ Dyer Dhows are permitted for competition. As of 1998, only North Sails shall supply sails to Pequot’s measurements. There shall be one class.

4. ELIGIBILITY

Current and former Members of the Pequot Yacht Club Board of Governors. And, All Juniors, current participants or graduates of the Junior program, who are 18 years old or younger on the day of the race, March 29th.

There will not be any minimum skipper weight.

5. FEES

There are no fees due for this event.

6. SCHEDULE OF EVENTS

Rigging will at 12:30 P.M. on Saturday March 29 followed by a Skipper’s Meeting at 12:50 P.M.. The race will start promptly at 1 P.M. and continue until 3 P.M., or until 5 races have been completed. No race will be started after 2:45 P.M.

Subsequent races will be held as soon as possible after the end of the previous race.

8. SAILING INSTRUCTIONS

Sailing Instructions will be available from the Race Committee.

9. PROTESTS AND ALTERNATIVE PENALTIES

A hail of “Protest” shall be made to the offending boat at the first reasonable opportunity. RRS 44.1 is modified so that boats breaking a 'rule' in Part 2 of the RRS may take a One-Turn penalty of one tack and one gybe. Boats having taken the penalty turn in a race shall notify the Race Committee after finishing that race. Boats intending to protest shall notify the Race Committee and shall identify the protested boat as soon as possible after finishing the race in which the alleged infringement took place.

10. SAFETY

No one shall sail unless the safety boat is in attendance (neither club owned boats, nor privately owned boats shall leave the dock without the safety boat prepared to assist - this is a change from previous years). A U.S. Coast Guard approved personal flotation device shall be worn by all competitors when sailing. A boat retiring from a race shall notify the Safety Boat or Race Committee vessel before leaving the course, or, when that is impossible, the Race Committee immediately after arrival ashore.
