NANCEMELLIN

There has not been very much motorcycle activity this year. One reason is Nancemellin has had a Closure Order placed upon it because of inconsiderate Endurotype riders going down there without permission of the farmer by finding “secret” ways in to the course. We were able to get permission from the farmer to use it for The Smokey Road trial because we were basically on the way to the farmers property.

SMOKEY ROAD TRIAL:

An enormous amount of work put in by a very small body of people. 19 different locations for the 20 different sections for an increased entry of 33 this year. This is a nice improvement on the last two events of the previous two years. We were blessed with a nice dry day. The results were showing a good selection of the sections taking marks. 3 clean sheets on the day by Andrew Kearns, Martin Gilbert and myself (Melroy Youlton). These three were only separated by the special test which was organised by Jon Hinkley. A race around one of his fields, having to go over telegraph poles laid at all sorts of angles . Unfortunately Leon Youlton had a puncture at Blue Hills which made a delay for the observers after the lunch break. It has been noted that all reports since the event have been glowing. A big well done to those involved in the running of it. Those who came from out of county said that they will come again. Very poor showing from the side car brigade. The committee will have a think and discussion nearer next years event as to include them or not in 2016.

CHRISTMAS TIME:

We are having a Christmas get together on December 18th. This is a chance for the Landowners of the land used in events throughout the year and those who help in running the club to get together. Please register your interest by speaking to myself, Lynn or one of my staff at M.Y. Motors (01209 214114 / ). Its at The Inn for all Seasons for a Christmas Carvery.

AWARDS PRESENTATION:

A bit of good news. Lynn has been able to use her contacts in the world of British Super Bikes and subject to team testing plans has secured Peter Hickman to come and present our awards in February. ‘Hicky’ finished 9th overall in this years BSB Championship and is the fastest newcomer ever at the IOM TT,Northwest 200 & Ulster GP. There is also a strong possibility that he will be at Gilberts Coombe for a bit of Trials Practice on the Saturday after the awards evening.

HELP REQUIRED:

Trial at Nancemellin November 15th: We NEED help! As always this will be gratefully received. Please let us know if you can help with designing sections, marking out sections etc . Please contact me here at the office of M.Y. Motors

AGM:

The AGM is Wednesday 2nd Dec. Everyone is welcome. Your opinions matter.

2016 Dates:

Howard has done a dates list for next year. Please shout if you have any dates to add to this.

FROM THE PEN OF J.T.B.:

Toby Martyn:

No words of mine can begin to do justice to young Toby Martyn’s achievements in the trials world. Again this year, he has won championships in Europe and the UK against opposition – many being older – and of course, with a fraction of the travelling in chasing these titles. Is it significant I wonder – that The Martyn Family live very close to the best known ‘trials hill’ in the county – ‘Bluehills’. When you find yourself with a bit of spare time – visit ‘The Cornwall Archive Centre’. I suggest you will need to phone 24 hours before going – ie: 01872 322000. The Centre is off Treyew Road – opposite Truro Fire Station entrance and admission is free. You will be able to browse through the centre records and details before that – when we were part of the South Western Centre, 70 years ago! We can also enjoy the records and photographs of our late friends Brian Ellis & Eddie Seymour.

The Martin Jennings Run isn’t connected with our club but it was supported by many past & present members, who it was a pleasure to meet up with at the start on Sunday 20th September. Again Dave Saunby & his team did a ‘ 5 Star’ job organising almost 2000 entrants – a record! They brought the roads in that part of town to a virtual standstill, as they set off. All the funds raised are going to The Cornwall Air Ambulance this year. Well done Dave!!

Designed To Race by Peter Williams For those members who have this excellent book, you will be delighted to learn that a second one is about to be launched. I learned from the man himself, at The TT Riders Association recent lunch. It will bring things up to date, with projects such as the replica ‘John Player Norton’s’ being described from the drawing board to the complete bike! Full details are on the internet.
