What topics will I be studying? / Creating my own superhero and exploring how to tell a story / A novel either ‘The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-time’ or ‘Never Let Me Go’ / A range of writing by Alan Bennett / Researching a real event and writing an account of it in the first person / Reading extracts from ‘Romeo and Juliet’ and/or ‘Othello focusing on the actions of young men / Reading extracts from non-fiction written by Maya Angelou / Interviewing a partner and producing a magazine article about their rise to fame, drawing on my reading from last term / Reading an American novel, either ‘Of Mice and Men’ by John Steinbeck or ‘To Kill A Mockingbird’ by Harper Lee / Reading poetry by Thomas Hardy as well as extracts from ‘A Pair of Blue Eyes’

What wider reading will I do? / Read a range of non-fiction and poetry from World War 1, as well as challenging myself to read a wider range of books. / Read a range of non-fiction texts on the theme of heroes and idols, as well as continuing to challenge myself in my independent reading / Read extracts from short stories and fiction on the theme of fantasy worlds, as well as reviewing the range and challenge of my wider reading this year
