Invitation to become a Treasurer Trustee and shape the future of heritage regeneration in the UK

Background

UK Association of Preservation Trusts (UKAPT), soon to be known as the Heritage Trust Network, is a membership charity run by people who have delivered amazing heritage projects against all the odds and want to helpothers succeed in doing the same.

Operating throughout the UK, our members are the primary force for the rescue of valuable built and natural heritage. Working collaboratively with local communities and partners they take action to transformunloved historic environments, breathing new life into derelict buildings, structures and places. As developers of last resort they takeon ambitious projects that nobody else will touch.

UKAPTprovides invaluable peer-to-peer support, knowledge sharing and skills development. Our guidance and advice helps groups to initiate and manage their heritage projects effectively, to develop viable business plans, to engage their communities and to inspire volunteers. The work of our members contributes not just to the regeneration of heritage assets, but to job creation, training and education, volunteering, community engagement and action, the promotion of health and social wellbeing, and the development of new cultural activities and events. Their projects provide unique environments where people choose to live, work or spend their leisure time.

The Network also gives this extraordinary grassroots movement a united voice and through this advocacy, represents the views of our sector to government and funding bodies.

UKAPT is currently going through an ambitious programme of change to improve its governance, widen its membership, create a new identity, develop its website, including a new digital learning platform and make the organisation more relevant and sustainable so it is fit for purpose for the many challenges ahead. Your experience and qualities as a Treasurer Trustee:

  • A professional background in accounting and financial management, preferably with some experience of the voluntary sector
  • An ability to combine strategic thinking with monitoring detailed record keeping and compliance
  • Good communication and advocacy skills
  • A readiness and ability to play a role in fundraising
  • An interest in heritage regeneration and community action
  • Ability to work effectively as a member of a team and with staff and volunteers
  • A willingness to do some day to day tasks such as paying invoices and expenses

Location

The post can be based anywhere but the offices are based in central Birmingham in a restored Victorian building on the edge of the Jewellery Quarter. There are meeting rooms on site, as well as facilities for hot desking. The organisation employs two part time members of staff – a Membership Officer and a Funding and Technical officer - who support the Trustees.

Time commitment

The work is likely to take a few hours a week, plus attendance at meetings up to 6 times a year.
