This short paper explains how to format the paper appropriately that is ready for publication in the Proceedings. All authors who wish to publish their papers in the Proceedings should follow closely the rules given here. These rules cover the text, equation, figure, table, reference, and certain other aspects of a conference paper. If these are not followed, then the paper may be rejected regardless of its scientific value.

  1. Introduction

It is recommended to use word 2003 (or higher version) to prepare the electronic file of your paper. The paper size should be set as A4. Text should appear within the core region of the paper with dimensions (width and height) of 170mm237mm. The corresponding margins areas follows: Top and Bottom—30mm;Left and Right —20mm.The recommended font is Times New Roman, 14-point(14 pt) for the paper title, 10 pt for author(s)’ name, 9 pt for theaffiliation, 8 pt for the information of the corresponding author, 9 pt for the abstract and keywords, 10 pt for the main body of text, and 9 pt for the list of reference.

If there are two or more authors with different affiliations, then superscripts 1, 2, ... should be used so as to list the affiliations separately while keeping the authors in the same line, if possible, as indicated in this template. If there is only one author, or multi-authors with the same affiliation, then these numeral superscripts are not necessary. The family name (last name) of the author should be in Capital, and should be justput behind his/her given name (first name), which only has its first character capitalized.In-between hyphen(s) is needed for Chinese authors if there are more than two Chinese characters in his/her given name. The corresponding author should be marked with an asterisk, mark the presenting author with an asterisk (in superscript form), with the contact information given immediately after the last affiliation of the author(s), in 8 pt, Times New Roman.

Please write theabstractclearly and concisely, with a length of approximately 100~150 words, andprovide 3~5 keywords after the abstract. The first character of each keyword should be in capital, and a semicolon should be used in-between two consecutive keywords.

The paper length is limited to 5 pages. Invited speakers can submit a little longer paper, but no more than 8 pages.

  1. Basic rules
  2. Spacing, section title and indent

The line spacing of the text is fixed at 13pt, except otherwise stated. That of the abstract is 12pt.

The section title should be in bold capital, 10 pt. Except Section 1, the introduction, 1 line space before paragraph and 0.5 line spaces after paragraph should be adopted. The subsection title should be in bold, with the first character capital only. If the subsection title immediately follows a section title, then only 0.5 line spaces after paragraph should be used. Otherwise, both 0.5 lines spaces before and after paragraph should be used.

Generally, sub-subsection is not recommended for a short conference paper. If it is unavoidable, then use italic bold, 10 pt. Other settings are the same as the subsection title.

A four-character indent is recommended for all paragraphs except the first one that immediately follows a section title or a subsection title.

2.2.Equation

The equation should be centered with its numberingat the rightmost. Each equation should be single-spaced, with the additional 0.5 lines spaces before and after paragraph. Thus, it will appear to be

.(1)

The font size of symbols in each equation also should be 10 pt, to keep coincident with the text. A particular equation should be referred to as, say Eq. (1), when it is mentioned at a later stage. All symbols except those well-known to all should be explained when they appear for the first time, see Eq. (2) for example:

,(2)

where and are the stress and strain tensors, respectively, and is the fourth-order elasticity tensor.

While a fraction bar is preferred in a fractional formula as in Eq. (1), it is better to write which in a form as in the text. It is also recommended to writethe differentiation symbol as d rather than d, such that

.(3)

A comma or period should immediately follow the equation as shown above.

2.3.Figure

Any figure in the paper should be in good quality, with one-column size preferred, see Fig. 1. It is centered and single-spaced.

Figure 1.Through-thickness distributions of vertical displacement at different locations

The figure caption should be put just below the figure, in 8 pt, Times New Roman. If the caption is not long, it should be centered; otherwise the following exemplified caption of Fig. 1 should be adopted.

In the text, the figure should be referred to as Fig. 1, if it does not appear at the beginning of a sentence, where it should appear as Figure 1. The setting of 0.5 line spaces after paragraph should be used to distinguish the figure caption from the text.

2.4.Table

The table should be centered,in a three-line style as shown below:

Table 1. Properties of three typical materials

Material / Modulus
(109 Pa) / Density
(103 kg/m3) / Modulus
(109 Pa) / Density
(103 kg/m3)
I / 120 / 7800 / 120 / 7800
II / 100 / 6500 / 100 / 6500
III / 80 / 5000 / 80 / 5000

Unlike the figure caption, the table title, also in 8 pt Times New Roman, should appear before the table. If the title is not long, it should be centered; otherwise, the same form as the caption of Figure 1 should be adopted. In the text, the table is referred to as Table 1, for instance.

2.5.References

When a particular reference (article, book, etc.) is cited in the text, it should be assigned with a number and placed in the list of references at the end of the paper. Each time this reference is cited in the text, it should be referred to by the same number. A sample of listings is provided for a journal paper [1], a book [2], a conference paper [3], a paper in Chinese [4], a thesis [5] and a chapter in an edited book [6]. Note that all required information for any Chinese reference should be translated into English, and it should be indicated by the additional note “(in Chinese)” in the end of that reference, see Refs. [4,5].

When there are more than three authors of a reference, then we use et al. after the third author for simplicity, see Ref. [7]. Although abbreviated journal title is preferred to save space, please provide the complete name if the author(s) are not sure about the correct abbreviation of a journal.

  1. Conclusion

Although we have tried our best to show the main rules above that will make your paper meet the publicationrequirements, you are strongly recommended to use this template directly to write your paper. This can avoid at the best certain unexpected troubles if you set the paper by yourself according to the rules presented in this document.

It is strengthened again that, if your paper does not follow the rules here, then it will be rejected without a further review for its suitability of publication in the Proceedings.

Finally, any research paper to appear in the proceedings should contain new results. Simple duplication of any published paper, completely or in part, is in conflict with the academic ethics and the publication policy of IEEE.
