PLEASE JOIN US FOR COLUMBUS DAY WEEKEND
AT THE MAINE HOUSE!!!
As long-time members of the Worcester Chapter know, Columbus Day weekend at the Maine House has been one of our most popular, and most pleasant, trips for years. This time our trip begins on Friday, Oct 9th, and ends Monday, Oct 12th. For those of you who have not yet experienced the peaceful accommodations, The Maine House is located on beautiful Lake Christopher in Bryant Pond, Maine. There are plenty of hiking, biking, canoeing and kayaking opportunities near Bryant Pond.
We will have a massive yummy breakfast each morning, a “make your own” lunch buffet each day, and prepared dinners on Saturday and Sunday nights. Each participant will be required to help serve and clean up after one meal. Accommodations range from cozy couples rooms to comfy bunks. Your 3 nights lodging at the lovely Maine House includes linens, blankets and towels, so you just need to bring your outdoor gear and maybe your favorite games and CDs.
For activities, we will have one challenging hike each day. In addition we will offer one easier hike, at least one road bike ride, and hopefully a kayaking trip. Activities may, however, but limited by the number of qualified leaders available. For those who don’t want to hike or bike, the fall foliage, which is usually at its peak, makes a wonderful backdrop for antiquing and exploring. The Fryeburg Fair is running through Sunday the 11th and – great news – the Wife Carrying Championships will be at Sunday River Ski Area on Saturday, Oct.10th this year. Canoes are available (no charge) for boating on Lake Christopher, and there is a steam room on the ground floor. For the evenings, we might play board games, listen to CDs, dance or take a local walk. For those who just want to relax, the Maine House is well equipped with recliners and a huge fireplace.
In order to accommodate more participants, we have rented the house next door, (the “Maine Country House”) in addition to the Maine House, so we will have space for a total of about 35 people. Also some of our members will be preparing both Saturday and Sunday dinners in the Maine House’s wonderful new gourmet kitchen. Don’t worry, this does not mean you have to cook – that will be done for you unless you just want to help.
If you have questions about the trip, please contact the registrar, Wendy Huber. Also, before registering for the trip, you MUST contact Wendy. Please email her at .
