Sell the City

Performance Task Description

The student researches an assigned city, then creates a report, a 6-panel brochure, a one page flyer, and a PowerPointpresentationon that city also incorporating graphs, charts, and which demonstrates analytical ability specific to that city.

MUSTS: city name, location, demographics, mapping, and all entertainment venues with prices and availability noted (include all professional and semi-professional sports team venues, arts, theatres, music, musical venues, rodeos, museums, water-parks, restaurants(a range of choices from * through *****), physical fitness facilities, parks, and historical sites, and transportation around the city of your choice.

Once research is complete, the student creates a project to "sell the city," which contains:

  1. 3-5 page research report (title/works cited not counted in page requirements) DUE: 4/27-28for A/B
  2. 6-panel brochure DUE: 5/5-8 for A/B
  3. 10-12 slide PowerPoint presentation. DUE/READY FOR VIEWING: 5/17-18 for A/B
  4. 1 page flyer. DUE: 5/23-24 for A/B

Researched and documented information should be used to create:

A typewritten reportusing word about the city, 3-5 pages in length with a cover page and works cited including a minimum of 2 graphs/charts created in excel. (This a place to show off your software integration skills!)

  • Population, demographics, lodging, airports, entertainment venues are examples for graphs/charts
  • at least one table of businesses operating in the city created in a database or spreadsheet software
  • Restaurants or Entertainment venues examples of tables
  • Table of Contents

A 6-panel correctly folded brochure showcasing your best findings (you will “draw” to determine your target market for the remaining parts of the project)

A one page flyer with abbreviated information yet one that speaks “powerfully”

APowerPoint presentation should begin with a title slide that has a “WOW” factor. The remaining slides should include some of the charts from the spreadsheet as well as scanned or imported images and at least one video clip of the city or a tourist attraction located there. It should also take advantage of the customization features, such as, speaker notes, automatic slide timing, use of master slide, background color scheme, recoloring and editing objects, original backgrounds, evidence of a theme, evidence of the purpose, links to other slides, hidden slides, and voice over recording. The presentation should contain a minimum of 10 slides, with a maximum of 12, make sure all graphics used are non-pixilated, demonstrate the appropriate use of white space, smooth transitions, creativity and originality, and must not contain any clip art or word art. Everything used must be original.

The purpose of this project is to show the ability to research and analyze information and present that information in a variety of formats, depending on the audience, media required, and time/space constraints.
