A HOUSE RESOLUTION

TO CONGRATULATE THE SOUTH CAROLINA 2007 INTEL INTERNATIONAL SCIENCE AND ENGINEERING FAIR FINALISTS ON THEIR EDUCATIONAL AND RESEARCH ACHIEVEMENTS AND TO OFFER BEST WISHES TO THEM IN ALL THEIR FUTURE ENDEAVORS.

Whereas, the Intel International Science and Engineering Fair is the largest precollegiate science and engineering competition in the world; and

Whereas, the Intel International Science and Engineering Fair was held in Albuquerque, New Mexico, from May 1419, 2007, with over 1500 participants from the United and fifty countries. Over four million dollars in scholarships were awarded at the fair; and

Whereas, South Carolina hosted eight regional competitions for students across the State to compete in local science and engineering fairs to earn the right to represent South Carolina in this international competition; and

Whereas, the twentytwo finalists designated to represent South Carolina were: Yupeng Liu (Charleston Academic Magnet School), Alexander Romanczuk (Charleston Academic Magnet School), Tara Batson (Pickens High School), Graham Van Schaik (Spring Valley High School), Shivani Argarwal (Spring Valley High School), Kaitlyn Rainwater (Dreher High School), Ariel Guinn (Dreher High School), Bonnie L. White (Mayo High School for Mathematics, Science & Technology), Michael Green (South Carolina Association of Independent Home Schools); Jason Morris (Dorman High School), Jay Gill (Dorman High School), Ethan Josiah Walker (Creekview Learning Center), Xue Chi (Southside High School), Katie Stine (Hilton Head Preparatory School), Jordy Harris (Hilton Head Preparatory School), James Tyler Dunn (Hilton Head High School), John Patrick Courtney (Hilton Head High School), Graham Gintz (Hilton Head Preparatory School), Mac DeRose (Hilton Head Preparatory School), Chelsey Webb (Hilton Head Preparatory School), Alex Smith (Hilton Head Preparatory School), and Ryan Clark (Hilton Head Preparatory School); and

Whereas, these academically talented young people competed against students worldwide using their creative research and problemsolving skills and certainly made their teachers and parents proud; and

Whereas, in addition, two students from Spring Valley High School were victorious in competition. Shivani Argarwal won third place in the BioChemistry category and Graham Van Schaik won first place in the Environmental Science category as well as Best of Show in this category; and

Whereas, it is proper and fitting that the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives pause in their deliberations to recognize these outstanding young scientists and engineers for their outstanding academic accomplishments. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, congratulate the South Carolina 2007 Intel International Science and Engineering Fair finalists on their educational and research achievements and offer best wishes to them in all future endeavors.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to each finalist.
