We are covering the following skills and concepts:
Reading: Retelling stories, Characters, Parts of a Book, Key Details, Setting, Ask and answer questions about the story, read high frequency words by sight
Phonics: Letter and Sound Recognition of ALLuppercase and lowercase letters, A to Z, blending sounds to make words(/c/-/a/-/t/ is cat), isolate sounds in words (beginning /c/, middle /a/, & end /t/)
Language Arts: Demonstrating rules for discussion (listening to others, taking turns speaking), spell high frequency words( I, can, the, we), write sentences using high frequency words, Writing Uppercase and Lowercase Letters, A to Z, use nouns and verbs in a sentence
Writing: Use a combination, drawing,and dictating to compose an informative or explanatory text. Write an explanatory sentence (Dogs are __. Dogs can ___. Dogs have __.)Trait: Ideas and Word Choice
Math: Counting 0-20, Writing Numbers 0-10, and Writing Number Words 0-5
Count and write “How many?”
*Math Answers are marked incorrect if numbers are backwards. *
Social Studies: Classroom Rules & Procedures, Rewards & Consequences, and Rights and Responsibilities, Sequence events using schedules, timelines, and calendars
Science:Observe and describe the effects of sunlight on Earth’s surface (e.g., heat from the sun causing evaporation of water or increased temperature of soil, rocks, sand, and water).
High Frequency Words:I, can, am, the, we, see, a, like

Please notify the office of any updated contact, transportation, or any important information in writing immediately.
Parents/Guardians are required to notify in writing (Doctor’s Excuse or Parent Note) to the teacher when their student is absent for any reason within 3 days of returning to school. Students are allowed only 8 parent notes for excused absences for the school year.
Students are allowed to have a snack and a drink when all lessons have been taught and with good behavior. No nuts, candy,or sodas. Snack Cart items are $1 each. Also, on Tuesdays and Thursdays ice cream will be sold for $1. Our classroom snack time is 2:00pm. No snack will be eaten after 2:30 pm.

*Retests are given to scores 59 and below. If a retest is given, a maximum score of 70 can be made.
Daily Homework:
Practice writing sentences using high frequency words.
Please make flashcards for sight words, spelling words, numbers, and number words. Practice daily.
Practice: saying lunch numbers, tying shoes, buckling and unbuckling belts/pants/skirts.
Practice writing first and last name correctly.
Practice writing letters A-Z uppercase and lowercase between lines.
Practice letter sounds A to Z daily.
Practice identifying, writing, and counting numbers 0 to 20.Write number words zero-twenty.
Practice writing high frequency spelling words 5x.
Create flashcards for High-Frequency Words and Numbers. Flash to child daily.
Read a book to your child. Read the same story for a week. Daily, have him or her identify the characters, parts of a book (front cover, back cover, spine, title page, and what the author and illustrator does), key details about the story, and setting.
