Meeting called to order at 12:04 pm

Ø  Rick moved to approve the minutes from February 27, 2015, Lynn seconded, and motion was approved by consensus.

Ø  Rick moved to approve a program revision for AS Liberal Arts: Math and Science, and Lynn seconded. There are several changes: 1) increase math credits from 8 to 11 by adding MAT 161—Elementary Statistics as a degree requirement; 2) add SCI 110—Foundational Skills in Science as a degree requirement; 3) reduce the number of Math/Science elective credits from 12 to 8; 4) add FCS 101—Foundations for College Success as a degree requirement; 5) reduce the number of HPE credits from 2 to 1, requiring an activity course; 6) remove the requirement of LIB 101—Library Research Skills or CSC 102—Introduction to Microcomputer Applications; 7) change the required number of free elective credits from 6 or 8 to 7. Lynn explained that statistics is a required course in many of the related degree programs at Plattsburgh State. SCI 110 addresses the objectives and skills of information literacy allowing for the removal of the choice of LIB 101 or CSC 102, and PSU will accept SCI 110 as fulfilling information literacy. Motion passed.

Ø  Rick moved to rescind the course revision to CHE 101 that had been approved by the Curriculum Committee at the February 13, 2015 meeting, and Terri seconded. Lynn explained that after approval, concern was raised at the department meeting on two issues. There was concern about online students in CHE 101 if SCI 110 was required, and it was also submitted that the skills were already being taught in CHE 101. The department re-voted on whether SCI 110 should be required, and the department voted to remove the requirement. A discussion ensued at curriculum, and concerns were raised that this was coming to the committee last minute, with no paperwork being submitted. Members were concerned that no data was put forward that disputed the initial justification to include SCI as a requirement. Without a justification being presented using the approved curriculum committee process, members voted not to pass the motion.

Ø  There was a discussion on the process of replacing curriculum worksheets. It was noted that many advisors use the information when advising students. Cheryl explained how the same information would be put on the college website for advisors to refer to. There was discussion on the responsibility of keeping webpages updated.

Ø  Rick moved to change all references to “graduation worksheet” in curriculum documents to “degree requirements” to maintain consistency, and Terri seconded. Motion passed.

Ø  Rick moved to adjourn, and Terri seconded. Meeting adjourned at 1:09 pm.

Respectfully submitted by:

Catherine K. Eloranto

The date of the next meeting will be April 10, 2015 at Noon in Room 350M.
