II. DISCUSSION AND FEEDBACK:

-  Catalina will create redraft of section and provide it before next call for review.

-  Outreach was made to Jennifer Kates of Kaiser – to find out info on how ADAP is or is not utilize by immigrants. This information will be useful to the content.

-  Julio – will send a document regarding prisoners and HIV/AIDS:

o  Recent announcement for monies to put out to support HIV prevention in correctional facilities.

o  Language flexibility.

-  Establish prevention priorities for population:

o  Primary prevention – the term “homeless” can be another language used in the document.

o  Secondary prevention – utilization of services.

o  Tertiary – long term care in prisons and how immigrants are affected by it.

-  There needs to be an understanding of the complexities of “subcategories” immigrants may fall under.

-  The immigration bill has failed. Severe anti-immigration measures are taking place. Raids are creating fear and that is creating a detrimental health impact on the community.

o  In Louisiana, they have immigration forces raiding the community 2-3 times a week.

o  The direction of infection (i.e. NY Times article on Mexican migrants) – limits the ability to fight the epidemic.

-  A call to the public health community to get involved in the immigration issues.

-  Need for program in mobile settings. Program design – language including complexity of languages spoken/understood, illiteracy rates, culture and community resources needed to support the infrastructure.

-  Border is environmental risk factor – area that is heavily crime infested as is own risk factor.
