- Tutor 5 students of varying levels in Japanese in reading, writing, and conversation. Create lesson plans in Japanese with English translations to help understanding of Japanese language structure.
JAPAN EXCHANGE AND TEACHING PROGRAMME, Tsushima, Japan
Assistant Language Teacher (ALT)/Translator, August 2006 – August 2008
- Worked on the island of Tsushima of Nagasaki-prefecture in the Board of Education as an assistant language teacher for schools and translator/interpreter for the head of ALT relations of Tsushima.
- Worked at 5 schools with Japanese English Teachers using “team teaching” to create games, lesson plans, and activities in Japanese and English to use in class. Saw improvement in students’ confidence speaking English with foreigners.
- Was responsible for translating documents for ALT relations - such documents include:
- Flyers and schedules for the “Chingu, Tomodachi, Friend Weekend” held in Tsushima to enhance relations between Japan, Korea and the ALT community.
- Welcome/Information packets sent to the new ALTs hired every year.
- Inter-office documents holding information about events, schedule changes, etc… for ALTs.
- Provided interpreting services and helped organize ALT attendance and ice-breaking activities for the “Chingu, Tomodachi, Friend Weekend”
- Interpreted conversations between ALTs and office workers in the Board of Education.
