Pinecrest News!

NOVEMBER 2014

November has been a whirlwind of activities here at Pinecrest Preparatory Academy! Parent Academy courses, PTA meetings, Movie Night, Awards, a food drive, Book Fair… everyone is busy, and the kids are thriving! We thank all of our wonderful volunteers for their amazing work this month on many of the projects and events; we couldn’t do it without you!

PCC Update

The Pinecrest Cares Club met their goal of raising $500 for the American Cancer Association last month! They wish to thank the parents who chaperoned, the students who participated in the walk, and everyone who dressed up in PINK DAY to show their support for Breast Cancer survivors and raise awareness of the disease.

This month the club is holding a Food and Fund Drive to benefit the Second Harvest Food Bank of Central Florida! They have challenged the school and it is class versus class to see who will raise the most food! It is Kindergarten versus Kindergarten, 1st vs. 1st grade, 2nd vs. 3rd, 4th vs. 5th , and for Middle School it is all out WAR to see who will take the coveted JAWS Certificates! We are so proud of our Sharks volunteering, donating, and doing good works in their community!

Parent Volunteers – We Need YOU !

Speaking of Volunteering… Parents, we are almost halfway through the school year and time is ticking on your mandatory 30 hours of volunteer time! Try committing a few hours this month to volunteer in your child’s classroom or contact the front office to find out about any opportunities they may have! Be sure to sign up through the ADDITIONS website HERE to be cleared first, otherwise delays will occur with volunteer clearance. Please contact your child’s teacher for opportunities she may have available!

Thanksgiving – a time to give thanks

Many families have their own traditions this time of year. Some will travel to other states to visit family; some will stay home and watch the Macy’s Thanksgiving Parade while mom cooks up her magic in the kitchen, preparing a grand feast for the family. Others will be bundled up outside major shopping outlets, ready to pounce on Black Friday Deals. However you are celebrating this holiday, please take a moment to give thanks for your loved ones, hold them close, be grateful for the life you have and the sacrifices it has taken to get you where you are. We just celebrated Veterans Day, so please give a thought to the men and women who are overseas and unable to be with their own families this holiday season.

Be safe over Thanksgiving Break, which runs from November 24th to the 28th, and be sure to visit your local library and get some reading time in over the break, too! Students always have access to their IXL and Reading Plus at home, so take advantage and get a head start on December!

What are we here at Pinecrest Preparatory Academy grateful for? Our amazing Sharks and their families, of course!

GO SHARKS!
