Community: Delaware is a growing college town of approximately 36,000 located 30 miles north of Columbus, Ohio. The residents span all socioeconomic levels, and it is the home of Ohio Wesleyan University as well as several large industries. Currently, Delaware County is one of the fastest growing counties in the United States.
School District: The Delaware City School District is a mid-size city school system covering 36 square miles of land. The district enrolled approximately 5900 students as of August 2016. The Delaware City Schools serve a diverse population. On the 2014-2015 state report card 14.4% of students were identified as students with disabilities, 35.1% fit the requirement of economically disadvantaged, 5.0% are Black/non-Hispanic, 1.1% Asian or Pacific Islander, 4.5% Hispanic, 5.3% Multi-racial, and 84.1% White. 1.4% of the students are described as “limited English proficient.”
The district serves students in eight school facilities: five grade Pre-K-4 buildings, a grade 6-8 middle school, and a comprehensive grade 9-12 high school. Other district facilities include a central administration building, a curriculum and administration building housing an online alternative education program, technology center, and transportation center.
High School: Rutherford B. Hayes High School is a four-year, public school with a total enrollment of over 1700 and a 2017 graduation class of 366. The school is fully accredited by the State of Ohio’s Department of Education. Student/teacher ratio: 19.7/ 1. Rutherford B. Hayes High School has received a state grade of A for Indicators Met in Achievement and an B in Four-Year Graduation Rate and has been awarded the Batelle for Kids Soar Award for High Progress.
Faculty: Rutherford B. Hayes High School has 83 licensed professional staff, 58 of whom have earned a master’s degree with additional hours, 19 of whom have 150+ hours and the staff averages over 9 years of experience.
Graduation Requirements: Twenty-one units of credit must include: English (4), Mathematics (4 – Algebra 1 and higher at least through Algebra 2), Science (3 - 1 each Physical/Biological/Advanced), American/World History (2), American Government (.5), Economics (.5), Health (.5), Physical Education (.5), Fine Art (1), and Additional electives needed to meet the required 21 credits. All students also need to pass the state mandated Ohio Graduation Tests unless exempted by their individual education plan.
Grading System: All courses are figured in computing a weighted Grade Point Average, except courses taken Pass/Fail or at the middle school level, on a 4.0 grading scale. Students taking Advanced Placement and College Credit Plus (weight is only given if in the same subject area as an offered AP course) classes are given an extra grade point. Class rank includes all students in each grade level. Rank and GPA are figured at the end of each semester representing cumulative work. Class rank and GPA are released to college admissions personnel with each transcript. All grades and courses for transfer students are included in accumulative GPA and rank. Honors courses are designated on the transcript as Honors, Enriched, or Accelerated.

Valedictorian/Salutatorian Criteria: A Valedictorian shall have a minimum of a 4.1 GPA and 3 Advanced Placement classes. A Salutatorian shall have a minimum of 4.0 GPA and 2 Advanced Placement classes.
Graduate’s Plans: Approximately 50% of our 2016 graduates planned to attend four-year colleges and universities; 17% to attend two-year colleges or technical schools; 17% to enter the workforce full-time and 5% to enter the military.
