JOB SUMMARY
The Vice President of Physician and Professional Services serves as an administrative partner for the Essentia Chief Medical Officer and Chief Operating Officer, and Regional CMO functions at Essentia and Essentia Regions. The Vice President is directly responsible for providing leadership for health system physician and practitioner recruitment and retention, professional staffing services, physician and practitioner employment services, and credentialing, privileging, and performance standards. The Vice President serves on leadership committees as assigned, andcontributes toward leadership of the organization as a whole in order to achieve the highest level of organizational success.
QUALIFICATIONS (minimum requirements)
Education and/or years experience required:
- Master’s Degree in business, management, or healthcare field.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in healthcare and physician practice leadership
- Proven experience in initiating and implementing policies/procedures.
- Proven experience and success in leading operational changes, setting performance measures, establishing budget plans and monitoring process, strategic planning, program development and implementation and process improvement techniques.
- Proven experience in effective leadership roles.

- Total number of employees under direction of this position is 40.
- Budget accountability in excess of $4 million.
- Must have ability to work in a matrixed organization, collaborate with others, and work through teams at all levels of the Essentia Health system.
- Understanding of and ability to apply operational systems related to ambulatory and acute care operations (care teams, staffing models, clinical roles, physician practice management, professional revenue, compensation systems, cost management, etc.)
- Must have a broad understanding of and ability to apply changing concepts in healthcare delivery
- Ability to lead and manage change

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND ACCOUNTABILITES
- Serves as an administrative partner for Chief Medical Officer /Chief Operating Officer at Essentia Health and Essentia Health Regions including but not limited to: professional practice standards, culture, leadership and design, and practice support.
- Participates in local, regional, and national professional practice networks; develops and maintains knowledge of professional markets and trends; Consults with regional and national multi-specialty group practices/integrated health systems on practice support topics.
- Reviews health plans, accreditation, professional practice and regulatory standards; identifies and champions development of required philosophy, guidelines, and processes.
- Leads, develops, and directs systems for on-going professional practice evaluation across the organization.
- In partnership with a physician leader as a dyad, and in collaboration with the Chief HR Officer and Physician Compensation Committee, leads and coordinates the spectrum of support services for physician and practitioner professional practice: planning and staffing; recruitment and hiring;compensation; orientation and practice start-up for new hires, in-reach and locums staff;retention;leave of absence processes in compliance with all professional practice standards and HR/Compliance policies; resignation, termination and retirement for physicians; and medical education.
- Provides support for retired Emeritus physicians, offering scheduled forums for continued connection with the Essentia Medical Group.
- Promotes transparency across the professional practice; supports an active internal website for communication of professional practice support, charters, processes, internal and external resources.
- Participates in Essentia Health TRAC process and, in collaboration with Essentia Health legal counsel, supports regional CMOs, chiefs and chairs in managing performance improvement and involuntary transition issues.
- Oversees long-range recruitment plan and seeks yearly approval by the CMO/COO; provides recruitment, retention, staffing and demographic trends to the Essentia Medical Group leadership.
- Provides employment-agreement contracting for physicians in practice transitions.
- Serves as a consultant for industry and medical director contracts within the Essentia Medical Group.
- Provides leadership, oversight and direction, develops strategy and is accountable for effective operations of the Credentialing and Privileging Program to ensure that physicians and practitioners meet and maintain Essentia Medical Group professional practice quality standards.
- Performs Essentia-wide duties as requested by the designated Essentia leader.
- Adheres to the organizational Balanced Score Card and Strategy Map methodology.
- Demonstrates the required Leadership Competencies and Traits as outlined in the attached addendum.
- Upholds Essentia Health’s mission, vision, values and ethical standards and demonstrate the behavioral and service expectations as defined in our policies and procedures.

WORKING ENVIRONMENT
Work is performed in an office environment with good lighting, ventilation and low noise levels. Work involves travel throughout the Essentia system. Must be able to sit for long periods of time at meetings, etc.
