AIM OF THE COURSE:

Get acquainted with basic concepts related to biotechnology, the history of biotechnology, the characteristics and advantages of biotechnology processes and the application of modern biotechnology processes in industry.

PREREQUISITES:

Fundamentals of biology, chemistry, physics

SCOPE:

Definition of biotechnology, division, period of development, characteristics, biotic factors of biotechnology. Enzymes: definition, properties, division, action diagram, names of major classes, factors influence on the rate of enzyme action. Microorganisms: definition, factors influence on the microbial culture, culture methods of microorganisms - benefits and disadvantages. Genes, mutations, mutation factors, natural and laboratory genetic transfer mechanism. Advantages of biotechnology processes. Application of biotechnology in various industries. The scope of modern biotechnology

Lecture in the form of multimedia presentation.

Verification of learning outcomes and credit conditions:

The test is conducted in written form. It last 60 minutes and contains 10 open questions. 6 positive answers are the required to get the positive evaluations.
