PHYSICAL EDUCATION DEPARTMENT

As you start your new year in the Stockdale High School Physical Education Department, you are probably wondering about our policies concerning clothes, grades, activities offered, and general policies. This handbook has been prepared to answer these questions and to help you understand our procedures throughout the school year.

The courses you take in Physical Education at Stockdale High School should provide you with several rewarding results. The knowledge you gain about various activities and fitness will be useful the rest of your life. Our goal is for you to have fun while learning this knowledge. The activity you engage in should increase your physical stamina, strength, endurance and general well-being, to assist you in a long healthy life. The Kern High School District Board of Trustees requires that you pass Physical Education four (4) semesters during your high school years. This requirement is for your own welfare and is one that should be enjoyable. Stockdale High Teachers are more than willing to assist you in teaching you about rules, activities, skills and ways to improve your physical well-being.

  1. Core program –designed to introduce students to individual sports to increase fitness levels preparing the students for State Physical Fitness Testing
  1. Sophomores
  1. Core program- designed to be more team oriented games with a few individual sports included. Team games may include volleyball, soccer or softball.
  1. GENERAL INFORMATION
  1. Physical Education offices
  1. Physical education office is unlocked. Please knock and enter if you have important business to discuss with a teacher.
  1. Locks and lockers
  1. Locks will be provided. 1 lock per student for the year.
  2. Do not give your combination to anyone.
  3. You will be assigned a locker. Do not change to another locker unless given permission by your teacher.
  4. DO NOT share locks and lockers.
  5. NO ONE WILL BE ALLOWED IN THE LOCKEROOM DURING CLASS TIME.
  6. Keep your locker locked at all times when you are not standing in front of it. This is your best protection against theft.
C.Required Uniform
  1. The Physical Education uniform consists of a white T-shirt, black shorts, socks and tennis shoes. No shirts or shorts will be allowed that are torn.
  1. Sweats may be worn only during the cold months (approx. Nov – Feb).

The sweats must be plain (no writing on them) and the colors are black, white and gray. Sweats may not be cut off or torn.

  1. DO NOT WEAR the clothes you wore to school under your sweat pants.
  1. Uniform and some sweats can be purchased in the student store. If you want to purchase your uniform on your own you must buy a plain white shirt and plain black shorts. No pictures or printing on either shirt or shorts.
  1. Stockdale ATHLETIC UNIFORMS WILL NOT BE WORN in Physical Education classes. This includes sweats issued for athletics.
D.Excuses from Physical Education
  1. You may be excused from class activity up to 3 days by a parent note. IF YOU DRESS IN YOUR P.E. UNIFORM AND OBSERVE CLASS THERE WILL BE NO LOST OF PARTICIPATION POINTS.
  1. The note must have parent signature, date or dates (up to 3 days) and phone number where parent can be reached.
  1. If your illness or injury needs to be excused for longer than 3 days, a doctor’s note is required.
  1. Rules and Regulations
  1. Cuts and non-suits cannot be made up.
  1. NO FOOD, DRINK OR GUM WILL BE ALLOWED IN THE GYM, LOCKER ROOM OR P.E. CLASS AT ANY TIME.
  1. Do not tell anyone your lock combination.
  1. Loaner clothes can be provided to prevent non-suits and loss of points
  1. GRADING POLICIES
  1. The number of points you earn during the quarter and semester determines your Physical Education grade. The points are earned by:
  1. Personal and social responsibility (Affective)

(dressing out, participating, cooperating with others etc.) 30%

2. Movement skills (Psychomotor) 10%

3. Cognitive (written tests, papers, folders etc.) 15%

4. Fitness days/fitness testing 45%

Quarter

A= 90-100

B= 80-90

C=70-80

D=60-70

F=60 and below

  1. Dressing out and regular participation will result in earning one point towards your personal and social responsibility grade. Therefore, if you are absent this point needs to be made up.
  1. When any of the following occur no participation will be given and some points may be taken away.
  1. Excused absence – No Participation point awarded (point can be made up)
  2. School activity athletic absence – Daily participation point is earned. Any fitness day or test missed can be made up.
  3. Tardy –
  4. Cut or Uncleared absence –
  5. Non-Suit – Loss of points plus you must still participate. Otherwise you will lose your participation point(s) for that day also
  1. Make-ups
  1. Attached to this page is the Main Make information. In addition to that page:
  1. For a daily participation make up, students, can turn in one full page written report to be assigned and explained by your teacher.
  2. Points must be made up before the end of the quarter or when offered by the teacher. No grade will be changed after the quarter is over.
  3. Points lost for cuts and non-suits cannot be made up
