Message from the President

As we enter February the day light hours are becoming longer and the hope of spring is around the corner. February is World Understanding month. Several of our speakers this month will share with us world view topics in conjunction with the months theme.

Tom and John are doing a great job with the golf outing. Sponsors have been coming in strong from club members. With brochures in hand please talk with your suppliers, customers, friends and neighbors about our event and our collaboration with the Salvation Army. The brochure is also available electronically so that you can email, put it on Facebook, LinkedIn or any other electronic media you may be using to communicate. At this point we are nearing 25% of our $25K goal and the momentum is building. Please make efforts each day when you are out in the business community to ask at least one contact everyday if they will help you support the Salvation Army and the great Youth programs of Rotary!

We have not talked about the CountyCup much in the last several months, I think we all needed a break from the great efforts our club put into the first Cup that helped to make it a success. The goal is to grow that impact of the Cup by increasing the number of organizations who participate. We are told there are over 2200 not for profits registered in YorkCounty. Last year we had 48 teams on the field participating….some had more than one team. If you know of an organization that would benefit from the exposure to the community, other not for profit boards and their active members, and the opportunity to raise funds in the process the Cup is a great option. The registration fee is $500 for each team and experience has shown that even when the not for profit enters most get a sponsor who reimburses the cost to enter. The Cup will again be held at York’s Revolution Stadium on October 5th. This is an all-day event. Elizabeth Wolfe is this year’s club contact with the CountyCup.

You may have heard that we have been approached by the Pilot Club of York re taking over their 30 year running SafetyTown program. The board will be reviewing the details of this request at the upcoming board meeting. Please join us at the meeting to learn more about the program and the 300 children this program serves annually.

It is also that time of year when we look forward to planning leadership in the club in coming years. As you know Ray Grudi has been away much of the last year and as such has asked to step back from the club presidency in 2013-2014. Fortunately Angie Hartman the current VP of the club is able and has agreed to step up a year early to the Presidency of the Club. Ray has agreed to follow Angie in 2014-2015 and will be Angie’s president elect. That leaves the VP seat open during Angie’s presidency. If you are interested in learning more about the process of moving through the three chairs ( VP, Pres-elect, Presidency) to the presidency of the club please see me to discuss the process.

Stay warm, hope to see you on Tuesday morning!

York East Rotary Golf Outing!

The golf committee is pleased to announce the York East Rotary Club golf outing is off to a great start. This year the outing is being held at Briarwood East on Friday June 28th, noon shotgun start. We are partnering with the Salvation Army of York. We are looking to raise up to $5000 for The Salvation Army with funds above and beyond our club's financial needs.

The fund raising goal is $25,000. At press time, we have $5950 sponsorship dollars committed. We need to keep working toward the goal and need every members help.

Additionally we have a hole-in-one sponsor with Jack Giambalvo family of Dealerships and beverage sponsorship by Brewery Products. Sponsorship updates will be made available at meetings and email.

The brochure is completed and copies will be available starting with the Feb 5th meeting.

Thank you very much for the sponsorships committed so far. We look forward to a successful event.
