Security Section

The Security Section is responsible for the strategic and operational management of security services at the Mint, and the management of contracted security service providers. The section develops and implements security policies and procedures to ensure compliance with government security requirements, standards and policy. It also ensures the effective operation of the electronic security systems, including maintenance and management of all alarm, surveillance, access control, detection and radio communication systems. The section is responsible for conducting security investigations and security reviews and the Fraud Control Plan.

Individual role within the Team

The Site Security Officer in the Royal Australian Mint is responsible to the Agency Security Adviser (ASA) for management of the guarding, electronic security and personnel security requirements of the Mint including the Mint security system networks and implementing security policies and procedures; ensuring compliance with government security requirements and standards; and developing and coordinating work programs to ensure the effective supervision of security and associated services.

Under limited direction, the Site Security Officer will:

·  Undertake duties relating to the protective security requirements of the Mint, including the management of contracted security guarding services.

·  Manage the Mint’s personnel security functions including security awareness training, security clearance, aftercare and contact reporting requirements in accordance with Australian Government policy.

·  Manage the hardware and software requirements of the Mint security system network including project management of system enhancements.

·  Prepare correspondence, reports, reviews and submissions on security related issues, and provide advice and draft policies and procedures in relation to security.

·  Represent the Security Section at internal and external meetings relating to security matters.

·  Undertake duties as the Mint’s Radiation Safety Officer to assist compliance with ARPANS regulations 1999 to provide a safe environment with the use of x-ray baggage scanners.

·  Act as Internal Auditor for the Mint’s Information Management & Technology audit program including audits of Change Management and IT Security systems.

·  Undertake other security-related duties in line with Mint-wide requirements and work priorities.

·  Working knowledge or experience with electronic security systems and networks or the ability to quickly gain an understanding of IP based technology, network infrastructure and windows server management functions.

·  Knowledge of the requirements contained within the Australian Government’s Information Security Manual (ISM) or ability to quickly acquire this knowledge
