April News from Mrs. Baker and Mrs. Crouse
Dear Parents,
We are amazed at how quickly the children are moving up in reading levels! They are verbalizing and using great strategies to help figure out an unknown word
Kindergarteners are having fun exploring various computer programs such as Brainpop Jr. to explore various Science concepts (states of matter/life processes) and Social Science concepts (famous Americans), Pixie (for drawing and writing about Spring), and Starfall (to explore word families and books). If you would like to access the Starfall website at home, the address is:
I always enjoy meeting with parents to discuss their child’s progress in kindergarten. If you would like to schedule a conference for the third marking period, please send an email or note. You can also indicate your desire for a conference after report cards come home, when returning the report card slip and envelope.
Reading Strategies for Big Words
If your child is trying to figure out how to read a long unfamiliar word, look for a small word,or chunk, within the unknown word.
If your child is trying to write a long word, break the word into “claps” or syllables to make the word easier to chunk and stretch.
Running Club
Now that the weather is warmer, Mrs. Morris would like to offer her students time to run outside before school. We will be good neighbors and give them the kindergarten playground on Mondays and Thursdays. Our class will continue to have Running Club outside on Wednesdays and Fridays, and in the gym with Mr. Brockway on Tuesdays. Many, many thanks to Mrs. Reed, Mrs. Diglio and Mrs. Strahan for stepping in to volunteer and keep this program going.
Ranger Rick Magazines
William’s family donated Ranger Rick magazines he was no longer reading. These magazines are the more popular thing to read in our classroom! If you are looking for an idea for a gift, or to keep your child engaged in reading over the summer these magazines might just do the trick.
One to the World
Our One to the World project for the 2nd semester is well underway. The students got a lot of inspiration from looking at images of different playgrounds. They then had an interesting discussion explaining what they liked about each idea. After printing out our favorite ideas, and placing them on tables around the classroom, students voted. Each child was given five counters to place on his/her top five playground ideas. Look below to see our winners!

We are in desperate need of baby wipes. Please send in a package whenever it is convenient.
Our crayons are breaking and becoming dull. We would love to have some new boxes. New crayons are so exciting!
We welcome donations of small items for our Prize Bin. If you have small toys your child no longer uses (bouncy balls, Happy Meal prizes, small clean stuffed animals, we would love to add them to our Prize Bin.
