*This course will feature the four pillars of learning:

*Students will expect to abide by the classroom norms that will be established the first week of school.

*Students will become good listeners by practicing the SOLAR technique: When someone is talking the listener will:
1. Be silent

Grading Policy

Class Assignments will be assigned to categories with differing weights.

*All assignments regardless of category are able to be “fixed-up” and resubmitted for additional points.

*The deadline for resubmission is anytime before the next chapter/unit test.

Category / Percentage Weight
Classwork/Group Work/Homework / 10%
Labs and Logs / 20%
Learning Cycles/Writing Projects / 30%
Chapter/Unit Exams/Semester Exam / 40%

Four Point Grading Scale -- All Class Assignments/Tests will be scored using a four point scale.

*Four point rubrics measure the learning on a four point scale.

* The four points measure the degree in which the learning objective was met.

*This is the standard rubric by which all assignments will be graded.

Work Evaluation Rubric
Advanced Understanding / Meets the
Standard / Approaching / Does Not Meet
4 / 3 / 2 / 1
Student has met the learning objective for the assignment / Student has met learning objective for the assignment / Student is approaching the learning objective for the assignment / Student has not met the learning objective for the assignment
Work is complete with added depth and complexity / Work is complete / Work is partially complete / Work is mostly incomplete
Student was respectful of time and materials / Student usually was respectful of time and materials / Student sometimes was respectful of time and materials / Student was not respectful of time and materials
Students comments were on task, thoughtful, and consistent / Students comments were on task and often move conversation forward. / Student’s comments are mostly on task and sometimes moves the conversation forward / Students comments are mostly off task.
